India’s 1st made-in-India chip to roll out from Sanand’s CG Semi plant: IT minister

Let’s hope so. But, I think we are very far away. None of these jobs are anywhere close to even starting of a fab.

It is probably SCL180 process, a really legacy 180nm node. It is so old, it used to be owned by another private company which then it got transferred to India, current staff really don’t have much documentation on the PDK as they should have.

What chips do you design, Mr @ChipDesigner ?

I help in the physical design process.

My previous comment is based on my experience working with that PDK during masters. I now realise this is only packaged in India, then my statement is not probably true

“India Working On 2 nm Chip”: Ashwini Vaishnaw Shows ‘Wafer’ At NDTV Summit: https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/india-working-on-2-nm-chip-ashwini-vaishnaw-shows-wafer-at-ndtv-world-summit-9477738
NDTV World Summit 2025: Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw brought a palm-sized model of a homegrown semiconductor wafer that has potential to disrupt global market leaders in this industry.

This is most likely just “election manifesto promising moon” type of stuff. First let them show clearly the capacity to manufacture 28nm chips.

Do you think in the places where they are facing elections, people notice this and will change their mind ?

2nm means huge, don’t know how all this works out…

I wasn’t thinking about that while I posted, I posted considering this is a tech forum & if someone says Nvidia is planning to launch a ultra VFM 3060Ti class performance series under/around 25k prices in India I would say something similar.

It won’t, this will remain a pipe dream for the foreseeable future.
