India to launch its own caller ID tech CNAP

India is preparing to introduce a new verified caller identification system that operates independently of third-party apps such as Truecaller. Finally much needed change. Truecaller is trash. I hope they do the apps right on android and iOS.

Hoping there is no sign ups involved or registration of any sorts. Implemented at the Service provider level.

Good, privacy and other issues were raised against truecaller.
Now, how privacy will be handled by our own system have to be seen.

This will be enabled by default. Shouldn’t this be an opt-in feature? Now that this is an opt-out feature, what will happen if I opt-out of this feature? Will it not show my information to others if they receive call from my number?
