IPS or VA panel?

I am bit confused in IPS and VA panel monitors.
I need a monitor on which I can do some Gaming and sometimes just to watch movies from a 2-3m(approx) distance and different viewing angle.

which one is a better choice.

IPS. Preferably from LG, they make their own display panels. Acer, Lenovo, Gigabyte, MSI etc buy from other vendors.

for IPS i think the brightness is bit low for the same price range for VA

IPS is recommended because you mentioned watching from a distance and different viewing angle.

What’s your budget?

IPS panels are good for gaming due to their faster response times and good viewing angle, while VA panels offer higher contrast ratios and deeper blacks.

This.. IPS are little bit on the cheaper end too with more FPS at a given price

near about 17-19k,
looking for a 144hz, with 27’ display.

IPS panels offer better viewing angles and more accurate colors, which is great for watching content from the side or further away.

VA panels usually have better contrast (deeper blacks), which is nice for movies in dark environments, but they suffer from color shift and ghosting at wide angles and sometimes in fast-paced games.

For mixed use (gaming + media + general viewing), I’d recommend IPS unless you’re watching movies in a completely dark room and really want deep contrast — then maybe consider a high-end VA.

But for overall versatility, IPS wins.
If you plan to game and also watch movies from 2–3 meters away at different angles, then IPS is generally the better choice.

i would recommend ls27dg502 if you can find it on sale at 19k.

IPS is the best choice. Some VA panels are really good, but none of the good ones are available in India, only the crappy ones available. So, go with IPS

buy IPS ONLY.

Hey @GauravSaini, check this out - Buy SAMSUNG Odyssey G5 27 QHD 180Hz IPS 99% 1MS AMD Monitor| Elitehubs– EliteHubs

There was a time when recommendations were quite clear: TN for Gaming, IPS for content watching, VA for combined usage. Times have changed.

IPS have increased the contrast a lot, and have become very fast (now even close to TN panels of the past) so much that TN panels are nowhere to see except some e-waste models.
On the other hand, the main drawback of VA panels - their black smearing - is very close to what it was a few years ago.

So now the main recommendations go like this:
If you have the money: OLED (Infinite blacks, instant response times - so great for both gaming and content watching)
Everyone else: IPS (Good color accuracy, and fast panels available for gaming - good balance and price to performance)

If you want to go deeper:

All IPS panels are either manufactured by LG (LG Display, not LG Electronics - they are separate entities) or by an LG licensed manufacturer. It is their patent.
If a Samsung model advertises IPS, it is probably LG Panel. LG licenses IPS manufacturing to a few manufacturers - AU Optronics and others which are used by brands like Acer, Dell, etc.
Samsung has a tech similar to IPS called PLS.

It used to be 1000:1, and 2000:1 for IPS Black (rare to find though). Has it improved?

+1 for this…

The VA Ghosting is actually an issue, I have an MSI Optix G243, it has very good contrast ratio 3000:1 but suffers from Ghosting and high fps games are literally unplayable

There are nano-IPS and Mini-LED panels with even more than 1000:1. But for regular use, something close to 1000:1 is fine, or go with OLED for perfect blacks and infinite contrast ratio.

Somewhat overpriced than your budget but original LG QHD IPS 180Hz HDR monitor.

Has good color gamut.

I personally don’t think it’s worth going for a VA panel in this day and age. IPS all the way.

IPS for flat display and VA can be good in curved display from what I know.
Flat is better for gaming and multimedia imo in most cases
