Raindrop.io offers almost everything for free and that’s what made me suspicious. I have seen a lot of people use it though.
You can’t have sub categories in free version. It is a big crutch (atleast for me). So I stopped using it. I don’t know about other privacy stuff with it.
Nothing is free.
From what I understood, it does not sell data. It is managed by a single person who, from his interactions, amd responses so far seems pretty genuine and honest.
And there’s a lot that the paid Tier offers.
I did pay for the premium for a month, but I didn’t get a response for the one issue I posted (probably coz the bloke was busy), so I went the readeck way.
I would still like to explore all three (readeck, linkding, and raindrop).
why you need raindrop? just use https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/floccus-bookmarks-sync/fnaicdffflnofjppbagibeoednhnbjhg
Well you can go through these but only if you believe them, in the first place -
Because raindrop has native apps for each platform
AI content? Just get tired of this tone now.
If you’re on Linkding - you could have REST API to export your existing bookmarks - use ChatGPT or Claude to help you transform those bookmarks into Markdown and use the Memos REST API for uploading - you have single solution checking most of the privacy concerns
Brother its the use of – and ““, makes me also kinda suspicious.
Bro that’s just how my rewrite tool formats things, same as I do for emails and docs at work. Honestly, I came here to get help and contribute, not to defend formatting or whether my reply sounds too “clean.” I’m not here to prove anything — just trying to be clear and helpful, like I do every day at work.
That said, I don’t want to waste my energy or yours dragging this off-topic. I’m deleting my replies and stepping away from the thread. Apologies if my comments felt out of place or rubbed anyone the wrong way — that was never the intent.
No worries bro. There’s no harm in being yourself and nothing to prove to anyone else.
That being said, others don’t have a personal envy with you, they just pointed out what they felt and you justified yourself. That’s it.
You can have any number of sub-categories (nested categories) in raindrop.
Its simply the best, you just have to get addicted to UI, works like a charm on Windows an Android.
Can see how you came to that conclusion but I hate that people have come to conclude em dashes and proper typographic quotes mean AI content. I love using my em dashes!
That’s an en dash, not em dash which was used.
I’ve used this in the past until I realized I have over 1000+ bookmarks and I’ve never read any of them lol. But go with @duTchman_1990’s wise words. It’s a great app/experience otherwise and custom support is responsive even to free tier users.
For the free version? When I used an year ago sub categories were not available for the free version. If it works for the free version I might look again.
Yes free version, does supports categories - sub categories - sub sub categories.
Been 2 years on free version, from day 1 support is there..
Honestly, unless it is all encrypted and foss, just assume that they will sell your data. If not now, then, when it gets acquired by some nft bros in the spirit of enshittification.
For what it is worth, I have tried the paid subscription for four months, and I contacted support and did not receive any response whatsoever. Happened for all the three support queries I raised.
Cancelled and went the Readeck way!
Damn, that’s concerning. I too agree that if you have the knowhow/patience, self hosting something like this prolly is way better. Or just use the browser’s bookmarks if you mostly main the same browser and don’t want any advanced features.
