Japanese Knives in India

Any reliable websites for buying japanese knives in India? I bought during my Japan visit about 6 years ago, but the blade just broke inside the handle…

Google immediately shows me some pretty good results for Indian websites claiming to sell Japanese knives, any way to check if they are legit?

Is it good have you tried?

Can you explain what you want to know? like the sharpness or maintenance or what?

I don’t know about Japanese knives but the chinda made Ikea knives are really good too

Kai sells directly in India. It is a common, mass produced one but still quite better than local knives.

Thanks, I found the site before but I wasn’t sure if they were legit.

All my 3 brain cells heard after hearing the words Japanese and Knives together in the same title was, “Oh goddamn I knew having a Katana was legal in India” xD

I have using Kai knives for over 2 years now, it is holding its sharpness well, I only had to sharpen it only once till now although I am the only one using that knife others in my house prefer to use the knife with a flexible blade we call it “patti knife”.
I bought it from amazon: Buy Kai Premium Kitchen Knife, Stainless Steel Set of 4 Online at Low Prices in India - Amazon.in

They seem legit enough and have been in India since 2023. I had a Nagao one imported from Japan which in the same price range and that is my preferred regular knife.

It can become a rabbit hole, if you are unable to set a budget.

Which one did you buy? I’ve one which I bought from Star Bazaar.

Woah i thought you were looking for katana like a samurai :winking_face_with_tongue:

This will be difficult to know before buying as there are lots of cheap Chinese copies which use cheap steel junk. I used to obsess about buying high quality steel knives and the experience has left me disliking anything “stainless steel” knife. Sharpening them don’t help much either as they tend to go blunt after some use. But once in a blue moon you get lucky with a decent quality knife.
Lastest trend regarding these knives is so-claimed “Japanese chef knives” which shart with “M” and after reading some reviews they too seem to be cheaply made even though the name which they take from is genuine Japanese brand.

I’m using only locally made knives now. They are not perfect but if the material and make are good then they can be very good knives. I’m trying to source good quality steel alloy which can be crafted to make kitchen knives.

Kai do more than just knives. I’ve bought scissors from them for clothes as well as hair and found them to be excellent.

They are a mail order company in Japan. Their products are decent and I wouldn’t be too worried about fakes.

Didn’t know they have a website now. Thats good. The price will be reasonable not that it wasn’t when they were on Amazon, the products authentic and selection will be more

Finally available and at a decent price
