I have a “test” PC that is normally off. For the past five days it was raining almost continuously. In the past I have faced problems due to this. Like when I woke in the morning my specs and mobile would have a thin layer of condensation on it. When a PC is in sleep mode, it’s not warm AFAIK. So what do you guys do to keep moisture away?
I asked ChatGPT to suggest a program to just warm up the processor. One suggestion was go-cpu-load-win-amd64 . It worked pretty well; I set up task scheduler to run it every 2 hours at 75% load for 30 secs.
I then thought why not do the same for memory. ChatGPT gave me a “memtest” that will also warm up the processor. I’ll compile it and test.
can you give me a simple windows C program (I use Mingw) that can do something similar? I want it to run for a user specified time. I’m not really testing memory, just want to “warm up” the memory - like the AHK script you gave me to load the processor
It’s multi-threaded. and configurable. e.g.
Gentler load (1 sec pause between passes):
warmram_mt.exe 4096 60 1000
(still 4 GB allocated, but each thread pauses 1000 ms per pass, run for 60 secs)
It gets to 100% in monsoon if you start drying clothes within room (because outside its raining) and also close the windows.
Otherwise, in monsoon it usually hovers around 80% in my room when i open windows.
High humidity will also cause corrosion, that’s one reason why electronic items start failing here. My old 1050 had plenty of oxidation damage, still it lasted a good 5.5 years. Plus it can cause molds and respiratory issues. And its so uncomfortable.
When temps are hot, AC is best option. Else dehumidifier, or both. Dehumidifier also raises room temp by a degree or two, good for winter. I am using dehumidifier every day for whole year during night, and all day every day in monsoons. Works well. But in summers AC is much better.
Yes sure, but i think it will still cool the room slowly. Not sure how effective they are in winters.
Winters anyway humidity is lower so not as much of an issue. But night time it still increases in Mumbai with closed room, and i keep it around 55-60%.
Ideally Indoor humidity should be in 40 to 60 range. Even 70 feels comfortable enough, but above 75 it kinda sucks. Right now i cannot run ac in my room for some reasons, so i use dehumidifier. Its perfect for winter and cool monsoon like now. Peak summer, it still helps but ideally AC will be much better.
Mold i think comes from high humidity too which peaks in monsoon and Mumbai anyway is very humid. For some reason, i never get it in my room.
Just run the ac in dry mode in monsoon, esp when pc is not running. Also humidity is lower during the day and higher at night. You can try to monitor humidity with sensors if needed. If dry mode is not enough, then can combine it with a dehumidifier.
No, I’m embarrassed to admit I only found out just recently about AC’s modes so just doing that at the moment. Humidity’s high where I live as well. I probably should get a sensor to see if whatever I’m doing is being effective.
But no, never thought about getting dehumidifier and as per a TC video that dropped just in time recently, I might not need one? Then again, the recent “mold” spotting prolly tells me to think otherwise.
