I am a video editor & I’d love some advice on which large capacity HDDs I need to buy to backup my projects once they are done.
My budget is 10-12k and the larger the capacity the better. I don’t care much about the speed of the HDD as I won’t be editing off of it. So stability and reliability is more crucial.
Once in a while, I will be however be copying specific files from the HDD to my SSD in case I need to reuse any of my old footage.
As for heat and cooling if that is important, I’m based out of Kerala, work in a non ac room.
Backup and --One Large HDD-- should never be used in one sentence. However I understand where you are coming from. Go to retailer section and you would find a few deals on large HDDs..however you should start saving for a NAS
Because you will be editing video files it means typical 2.5" portable usb hdd & 3.5" SMR based external hdd with power adapter are out of question unless you are willing to settle on seeing 30-40MB/s write speeds in worst case scenarios.
Cheapest CMR based external drive will cost you around 15k.
Yea I know. But in this case, my client will have a copy of the data at their end anyway. Hence not too worried. A NAS would be ideal but it would be overboard for my current clientele.
I am looking for an internal drive. Will it face the same issues?
That’s required only if I go for external drives right?
