Currently i am having 512Mb RAm in my Pc

i want to increase the size of my memory by 512MB Or 1GB
Which RAM should i BUY

i Have given u the configuration which is given in the book which came with the motherboard..

Please Help Me TO Select the best Ram for my current Pc

Ur mobo suppors 512mb ddr ram per slot.

dont know the current price but it should be approx. 600-700rs.

U can also try the market section for the deals floating around.

stick to renowned bands like corsair, kigston, transcend.

Obviously adding higher capacity RAM is always better so get a 1GB DDR400 stick.

get one more 512mb ram from transcend or kingston.shd be ard 700 bucks.

Better get 512mb ram and run them in dual channel.

how to run them in dual channel

i am new to hardware

u mean i should use the other slot which is vaccant

i think it support 1GB per slot

see the config again

and please tell which i should i buy

DDR266 OR DDR333 Or DDR400

and what is the meaning of DDR266,333,400

click on the** link** to get all the answers

those are the speed measured in mhz at which ur rams run the higher the better. For running in dual channel u need two sticks of ram of same capacity.U need to put the rams in the same colored slot for running in dual channel

@shatrughan, yea sorry missed that.

u shud buy ddr400 1gbx2(for dual channel and sale the 512mb u own) or 1gb + the 512mb u already have.

This will sound wierd, but bear with me.

I have a 915GAVL that supports 4 GB of DDR1 dual channel, 2 slots on each channel = 4 slots total.
A while back, i was in the same situation…
My PC shipped with 512 MB of ram, a year later, i added another 512 MB(which cost me 2k at that time)..
Hardware prices plummeted.
DDR2 went mainstream, hardware prices went south even more, but now DDR1 ram faced the same situation SD ram once did, and became expensive.

I added 1024x2 GB of DDR1 RAM, which cost me roughly Rs. 2200.

The point im trying to make is, i regretted buying that extra RAM.
With hindsight, what i should’ve done was, invested that money in a motherboard like the Gigabyte G31 S2L with an LGA775 socket, and bought some cheaper/better DDR2 memory.

Ofcourse, you might think differently, in which case i’d recommend you buy used ram and save money, there’s really no point buying new. Also, you’re in a better position cause your motherboard tops out at 2GB.

Good luck.
