Starting December 16, Meta (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp) will begin using conversations with its AI chat tools to influence ads and suggested posts. Users in the EU, UK, and South Korea are excluded at launch, but most global users will be affected with no opt-out unless completely avoiding Meta’s AI features.
I think I am already getting it. So if I visit any shopping site, suddenly in my whatsapp - I see a message. So yeah, browsing history is being monitored and Google seems to share that information. Issue is that a lot of website do not work well with Brave.
If a person does not want ads on WhatsApp, there’s currently no way to fully opt out except by not using Meta AI features. This can feel invasive or frustrating for users who value privacy and dislike targeted ads, as their preferences and emotions may be overlooked by the platform’s policies.
I’ve kept most e-com sites on aggressive tracker blocking but I too feel somewhere the data is leaking, like I searched a funny but obscure song on my ios device via shazam and searched the same on incognito yt on android, the whole name came in just after typing 3 letters.
Everything you can imagine is being monitored to cater advertising and self growth.
Search, Apps (and there usage pattern), camera, microphone, touch gestures, etc.
Last year was surprisingly shocked that while eating guava in front of laptop immediately got similar results related to guava (out of context) on YouTube (posted in some topic here)
Was shocked so Tested it will some insane things and apparently it was true.
That’s a cool observation. Our digital footprints from searches to app usage and even conversations with AI assistants are increasingly shaping what we see online. It’s impressive technology but also a reminder to stay mindful about the data we share and how it’s used.
No, you cannot completely stop companies from accessing your privacy, but you can significantly minimize data collection by using various tools.. (still being unsure if they are acquired in future by these companies)
