Micron announced today that it will exit its Crucial consumer business, bringing an end to retail sales of Crucial-branded SSDs and memory modules at major stores and online retailers. The company says it will continue shipping Crucial products through fiscal Q2 2026 (ending February 2026), after which the brand will no longer operate in the consumer channel. Warranty coverage and support will remain in place. Micron says the shift is driven by surging AI-related demand in the data center, which requires reallocating manufacturing capacity toward higher-margin enterprise and hyperscale customers. The company noted that its strategic focus is now on segments with stronger long-term growth in memory and storage rather than the competitive consumer market.
Hope there’ll be support in India for another 10 years. I’ve got ballistix ram and recently ordered their SSD.
The CEO will have peace’d out with his golden parachute and will be on his yacht doing coke by the time this goes south.
Everybody high up (MS, Google, Nvidia or anyone else) betting on the AI bubble, they wont be even the slightest hurt by it bursting.
Honestly at this point, if you are planning on buying anything that needs RAM or storage (phone, console, laptop, PC etc), do it now. Its gonna get way worse before it gets better.
I feel the same, the AI era is just beginning. It’ll be quite a while before it plateaus so there’s a long time before any kind of crash. I’m still with AM4, got new rams when it was reasonably priced 3 years back and now a new SSD. If anything fails in the next few years it’ll be my motherboard or power supply so I guess I’m safe for now.
