Need a DVD Writer

gonna buy a sata dvd writer tomorrow, pls suggest me the best company available and the model no. of the dvd writer, thanks

Cdfreaks latest favorite is Samsung sh-s203b, check if that’s available. More often than not least their choices are among the better of the lot. The other benefit in this case is the Samsung is really cheap, some 1400 bucks. Enjoy.

ya buy the Samsung sh-s203b

I would recommend the same.. But there might be others who have a different opinion

I have decided on 2 writers

1)Newegg.com - SAMSUNG Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 12X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA 20X DVD±R DVD Burner - OEM

2)Newegg.com - LITE-ON Black 20X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 8X DVD+R DL 20X DVD-R 6X DVD-RW 12X DVD-RAM 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-R 32X CD-RW 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA DVD Burner with LightScribe - Retail

The liteon one has light scribe whereas the samsung one doesn’t have,

which one should I take out of the 2, thanks guys

Take the Samsung one

Lightscribe ain’t of any use to you unless you are mem_dv or TH or the likes- if you do not plan on gifting or something like that. :face_with_tongue:
You will need LS compatible media too, iirc.
LS drive wont do so on any regular media.

The Samsung one seems to be one good burner after a long time from sammy- and it’s quite inexpensive too. :open_mouth:

And ask anyone here- if your old sammy worked 3 yrs- you were just darn lucky. :face_with_tongue:
It will be rather foolish to expect any burner to last longer than that, if you expect that as it seems. :no_entry:
If i was one to burn discs by the ton, even 6 months will be too much.
A year of service/operation is fine (warranty is usually that much), 2 yrs is good- anything more is a bonus in todays times. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

My NEC has lasted 4 years now :face_with_tongue: .

samsung @ 1.3 k

same here. my nec 3500 still works. got it 3 or 4 years back.

I am using SAMSUNG sata 20x…bought for 1600 a month back. Working great…so far…god forbid :face_with_tongue:

And i dont intend to use for 3 years in any case. The technology keeps changing so fast.

Bought the Samsug one @ 1350 last Saturday!

But it however could NOT read the DON Dvd Movie supplied with Digit June 07! :frowning:

,my Earlier BenQ 1620 Pro could Read/play that so effortlessly! (sad it died last week after 2.5 yrs good service)

Still in all testing mode!

jus check da region settings…Had da same prob with mine wen i picked it up some days back…Worked fine after i did dat…

Has to be region 5 or sumtin…

^^ I have Got DVD region+CSS free app installed!

btw, region specific conditionalities only arises when we try 2 play the movie from other regions, but here the case is of Not even Reading/recognising the Disc, i.e DON Original DVD,..so playing the movie or correcting the region settings does Not arise in this situation!

I think the Samsung S 203B is having some Media compatibility problems here, even if it’s(the media) is pressed with Original material!!!

Stiil, more views regarding the issue welcome!

^ My vote is for Llteons. LtnRPC & OmniPatcher pwns

^Probably a bad piece, Techie? I’ve used the 203 as well, and it seems to be a nice drive, quite fast. Still some issues with SATA controllers on nVidia chipsets though :frowning:

Works really well on Intel P35 boards, I got some really good results on 16X -R Verbs and 8X Yudens, but then you’d expect good burns on those MIDs

Techie - bad day buddy… take to the service center and get it fixed…

But the Question is…Would anyone allow Exchange of my Samsung just based on NOT Reading/recognising a Single DVD ???..practically what would be the ground of my exchange???

Still in Testing phase though…but not enough time for Much testing! :frowning:

Maybe something is wrong with that dvd, did you try some other dvds.

Dunno what, it just randomly started reading/recognizing the DON Dvd! So far so Good! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:
