Hi Everyone I am new here and I need help building a PC for AI related and some mild music production but mostly for software development.
What is your budget?
1.5L
[*]What is your existing hardware configuration (component name - component brand and model)
CPU - A older intel CPU
HDD - 1TB HDD
SSD - 1TB Nand SSD
[*]Which hardware will you be keeping (component name - component brand and model)
Monitor - A old Dell Monitor
Mouse - Logitech
A wired Keyboard - Logitech
HDD
SSD
GPU - Asus 710
[*]Which hardware component are you looking to buy (component name). If you have already decided on a configuration then please mention the (component brand and model) as well, this will help us in fine tuning your requirement.
Motherboard
CPU
RAM
Cabinet
CPU Cooler
PSU
[*]Is this going to be your final configuration or you would be adding/upgrading a component in near future. If yes then please mention when and which component
Yes, may upgrade the following within 12-16 months
May add a GPU and a good monitor for 1440p performance or may add extra RAM
[*]Where will you buy this hardware? (Online/City/TE Dealer)
Mumbai (Lamington Road and nearby shops)
Open for Second Hand.
[*]What is your intended use for this PC/hardware
Coding/Software Development/Docker/Kubernetes etc.
Browsing/Youtube/Reddit/TE.
Trying out ML/AI related stuff like different AI Tools running LLM locally if possible.
Casual Use
To create ppt, word and use windows office.
[*]Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them and the reason for your preference/dislike.
No brand preference but I want something reliable if incase I leave Mumbai then I do not want my parents to deal with PC issues.
[*]If you will be playing games then which type of games will you be playing?
Mostly No but maybe valorant
[*]What is your preferred monitor resolution for gaming and normal usage
Gaming - 1920x1080
Desktop - 1920x1080
[*]Are you looking to overclock?
Yes (in future but if it is not really needed for my usecase then no)
[*]Which operating system do you intend to use with this configuration?
Windows 11
I want to know can If I can build this one by myself?
I researched as much as I could and built a configuration based on that limited knowledge, please let me know if there are any changes needed, I also have a laptop Dell Inspiron with 11300H i5 and 8GB DDR4 Ram. But really thinking about making a PC now, since I have saved some money and crucial also shutting down RAM prices going brr.
No gaming use intended so he can get a 5060 ti/4060 ti 16 GB which will help with running local llms without compromising on VRAM and keep the build in budget.
Hi, I just want to know what was the issue with the cpu I selected is it overkill, I thought that since I won’t be upgrading for long going for 9900X would be a good option, as i can delay buying a GPU since right now I will start with software development
Even though Intel’s platform is dead, doesn’t change the fact that 265K is better than 9900X for productivity.
Else go all in on 9950X on AMD side as you have the budget (AM5 will get another CPU series). That Gigabyte B850 Gaming X is enough as a mobo if you don’t need extra PCIe bandwidth for say a 2nd GPU.
1x 32GB stick is better as you have headroom to go till 128GB, if you want without having to sell old RAM, if you buy 2x16GB. Anyways you aren’t a gamer, so don’t need 2 sticks to take advantage of dual channel.
Can consider buying 990 pro 2TB open box from one of the sellers here in TE.
I will pick Lian Li 216 as well, if you can get it.
its more than an overkill, what i recommend you is best bang for buck without losing much for a programmer but you will need a gpu with it so get what i said except the gpu maybe get a 5060 or 5060ti. If you really need to upgrade more than this mostly you wouldnt care about money then so you can buy something else.
if you want to cut down get a used less than a year old quality psu from someone with warranty and you are more than enough for long period.
The top cpus are overpriced in india and mostly you will be wasting money for nothing. Let them come down and currently ram and ssd prices are high so you will need to get them too.
Mostly those cpus are for people who use heavy softwares which a typical 80-90% programmers dont need.
Strong choice on the PSU. Solid foundation overall—but for local AI, the budget is misallocated.
AI lives on the GPU, not the CPU. Rebalance accordingly: step down from the overkill CPU and cooler, and redirect that money to a serious GPU like the RTX 4070 Super. Your current case and PSU are already perfect for it, which gives you a complete, capable system right now.
For scaling down, an AMD Ryzen 7 7700 on a B650M board is the sensible sweet spot. Pair it with a Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE insted of the pricy AIO, and even upgrade from the 850W PSU to a future-proof 1000W unit to handle GPU transient spikes. Choose a dual- or triple-fan RTX 4070 Super.
If your ₹1.5L budget gets tight, bridge the gap by liquidating your older hardware. With current memory pricing, add two 1TB NVMe drives alongside your SATA SSD—(DRAM-less models are perfectly fine and cheaper).
