I want to build 2 desktops for my office. I would prefer buying used components. I have been researching, and a few videos claim that even i5-4th generation paired with M2 SSD and 16GB ram provides enough power for windows 11 office PC(with Rufus install).
My budget allows me to go for better processors, but unless it is required, I do not want to spend more.
These will strictly be office PCs and will never be used for gaming.
My questions:
- What specs/generation should I go for?
- What components would you recommend buying new? Here is what I understand: Safe to buy used: RAM, CPU. Slightly risky: MoBo. Only new: SSD, PSU.
- I see motherboard kits being sold online. Should I go for a kit?
Nothing below 6th and 7th gen please
Get tiny PC
Ideally ensure the SSD is of a good brand or if not reputed, you have a cloud backup
Buy a Mac Mini M1 8GB/256GB version. You will get it for around 20K. Nothing comes close if your accounting software can run on a Mac.
Don’t buy those used mini PCs if you don’t have reliable source or even if you have one they are all 10 years old. They are extremely poor quality on Amazon, etc. Better to build an assembled PC with new components. You can easily build one for around 20K.
I would suggest you look at laptops with additional monitors, saves space. Pre-owned ThinkPads or equivalent business laptops with SSD and RAM upgrades are usually available at good prices.
I would suggest..
Always go at least 8th gen processor
Best get a thin or sff pc
