Need to Block some sites

I need to block some sites , pls suggest something that will block the site from opening (using any explorer),

I use internet explorer and mozzila firefox 3

if the sites you want to block are limited in number then do the following:
Go to “C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc” there you’ll find many files, open the one named “hosts” using Notepad. The file is very self-explanatory but if you still want to know in detail then do the following. At the end of the file but before the hashed statements enter 127.0.0.1, a few spaces and then the name of the site you want to block. It works no matter what browser you are using. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

^^This method tell the browser that the site listed against 127.0.0.1 resides on your own pc, but actually it isn’t. Browser resloves the IP of the site as 127.0.0.1 and finds no site.

This method is also used by some of the trojans and malwares to redirect the actual urls/sites

i read this post and opened the host file on my pc

i find that a lot of sites are already blocked by this trick!!!

but i didn’t do it ???

then i notice the comment line (with #) saying

“entries by spybot-search & destroy”

so it seems this ‘famous & free’ software also uses the above trick

Another alternative is to use opendns.com

Of course, this makes more sense if you have more than one PC on your network that need the same sites to be blocked.

For FF, use the addon Leechblock.

For IE, use Website Block.

Tried and tested.

Cruel person :joy: maybe he knows how to unblock it…And always remember you can;t make anyone stop doing anything unless u actually explain why
