Post Content:

Hi everyone,

Planning a major overhaul of my current rig. i built this about a year ago, but i’m looking to jump to a 1440p high capable gaming setup. i’m confused whether to just upgrade the components on my current AM4 board or sell the whole tower and build a fresh AM5 base.

1. Purpose of the system

  • Primary: 1080p now, however i will upgrade to 1440p Gaming in about an year or so (AAA titles like Cyberpunk, Alan Wake 2, upcoming AAA like GTA 6 and Forza 6).
  • Secondary: Mixed productivity, AI workloads, After Effects and other creative apps.

2. What is your overall budget?

  • ₹1,00,000 to ₹1,20,000 (IF upgrading to AM5, in which case i will sell the current PC excluding SSD if possible).
  • ₹60k + Amount from selling the older parts that are to be replaced (IF staying on AM4)

3. What components are you planning to upgrade?

  • Looking to overhaul the entire thing if needed to perform well at 1440p, excluding SSD and RAM (only if possible)

4. What is your current configuration?

  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5600G (with Stock Cooler)
  • GPU: MSI VENTUS 2X RTX 3060 12GB
  • Mobo: ASUS Prime B550M-A WiFi II
  • RAM: XPG ADATA D60G SPECTRIX 16GB (8GB x 2) DDR4 3200MHz
  • PSU: Cooler Master MWE V2 650W Bronze
  • Case: Galax Revolution 06 (Black) ARGB
  • Storage: 1TB Crucial P3 (Gen 3)

5. Which state/city will you be buying the parts from?

  • Online (Vedant, EliteHubs, MDComputers, pcstudio, or others) or local if prices are good.
  • I reside in Ernakulam, Kerala.

6. Monitor resolution and refresh rate:

  • Currently 1080p, but will switch to 1440p in the future.

Additional Notes for the experts:

  • Resale Value: I’m planning to sell my old components whenever posssible to offset the costs.
  • If you have any other suggestions or alternative paths i could follow, please don’t hesitate to tell me, as i’m quite clueless right now
  • I am open to buy stuff in the used market
  • The mentioned 1-1.2L budget is if i sell most parts of my current PC to offset the costs and move to AM5. The base budget is ~60,000 (flexible).

Thanks in advance for the help! :slightly_smiling_face:

There’s no point in upgrading currently, even if its AM5. The memory prices are too vicious and scandalous to even consider paying through your nose.

Instead, I’d suggest upgrading your GPU to a better one. Maybe a 5070Ti or a 9070/9070XT. At higher resolutions, your CPU ain’t gonna matter much anyway.

Maybe if the memory prices crash, which they will by this year fall or next year, you can plan your upgrade.

i think am5 upgrade would be too expensive due the past few week of continuous price rise of nearly every component. i think you should go for a cpu upgrade upto 5900x,5950x or any x3d chips if you are into gaming. would be better for you to hold. or wait for people to resell their in warrenty components which might save you a lot.

Where can I find those CPUs at a good price? Do I go for used or new?

5070 Ti is too costly, I saw 9070s for 61-62k, 9070 XT for 69k, do u think I should go for the XT provided the price difference?

I’d say, go for the 9070 then.

The 9070 is far more efficient than the XT and would do with the current 650W PSU you have.

Buying the XT not only means the additional price difference, but also a PSU upgrade to 750/850W, which means you will be looking at another 4-5K INR delta.

So, yeah, the 9070 makes the most sense in terms of performance and efficiency.

AM5 in the current landscape with criminal DDR5 prices? Absolutely not.

Your current foundation is pretty strong, and AM4 has seen a huge resurgence thanks to AI.

x3d chips will be hard to find/priced terribly. Get yourself a 5700x/5900x (used)

Add another 16 GB stick when it feels feasible

Get yourself a 9070.
