Nokia N900 preview - My-Symbian.com

slightly off topic here - but it is going to be a toss up between the N900 and the X6 (whenever that is going to release) for me.

while I would love to have the power of Linux in my hand, wouldn’t it be wiser to go in for trusted old Symbian?

Please throw some light on this aspect as well people.

Linux is easier to make apps for.. the number of Linux coders out there far outstrips the number of Symbian coders. Also, hardware-wise, the N900 is a beast, as well equipped as the iPhone 3GS.

nice review mate

^+1 …im still waiting for linux to get up :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

nice review, another phone in the line-up

IMO its a no contest choice. X6 has very little to offer over the 5800 except for the capacitive screen and 32GB Fixed Storage and neither are necessarily good things for everyone.

N900 is a much better buy as long as you can put up with a large 190gm phone. My earlier SE910i was 154gm and it felt really heavy. 190gm is a bit too too much for anyone to chew. If you have no problem with the weight, then go for it.

The CPU/Graphics and RAM is same as iPhone 3GS/Omnia HD/etc. ARM Cortex A8 is a popular choice for high end phones these days.

Thanks Lord Nemesis. After reading that review I felt it in my bones that this is my dream Smartphone. I will be buying it only in the new year though, when I shift to the US.

One thing that really could kill this phone is its size and weight. Its just too darn big.

But Maemo Vs. Symbian is a no brainer, Maemo will win hands down.

Does this have a dedicated hardware GPS unit? Not aGPS like the 3GS..

Yes, the SOC has HW GPS support. There is a preview up at my-symbian.com as well

The only flaw in otherwise an almost perfect phone… resistive screen… I would have loved if it came with a capacitive unit.

IRC it is capacitive

@abbY

no mate. resistive. but that isn’t going to deter me from buying this awesome piece of a phone!!
