Now you can check if a second hand phone is stolen and if someone else has registered a mobile number with your name

The Department of Telecommunications recently launched the Sanchar Saathi App which lets you:

  • Report fraud communication

  • Block a stolen/lost mobile

  • Know about all the mobile connections in your name

  • Know the genuineness of your mobile

  • Report incoming international calls with an Indian number

But to block a stolen or lost mobile you also need the copy of the FIR, your ID proof and a valid bill.

If you find any old mobile connections in your name then you can mark them as not required and if you find a mobile connection that you are unaware of you can mark it as not my number and report it.

If you are buying a used handset and want to know about it’s genuineness you can do so by checking if the IMEI is valid or not, this will check if the mobile with the same IMEI has been reported as lost/stolen or not.

You can download the app on App Store or Play Store.

What if I exchange my phone via flipkart to get new phone but old phone is still working & asking for permissions, then what to do?

If you mean google permissions you can go into your account settings through manage google account and manually remove different devices which have the account logged into them.

Having gone through the process in its previous CEIR avatar, you would rather have someone else use it than go through the FIR process.

Seriously though, they wouldn’t block it on your complaint and will definitely call the number using the phone first to verify.

Yeah except if it’s a particularly expensive or new one or have some really sensitive data on it most people would be better off instead first trying to register an FIR and then waiting for days to get a copy. Then also there are all the shenanigans of name on the bill, on the FIR etc.
