Palantir CTO says AI doomerism is driven by a lack of religion: Palantir CTO Says AI Doomerism Is Driven by a Lack of Religion - Business Insider
Palantir CTO Shyam Sankar says he’s skeptical of AI “doomerism” scenarios.
And he says those who believe in them are trying to fill a “God-shaped hole in their heart.”
“The people who have religion are the most skeptical of this,” Sankar said.
“I just don’t think it would work the way that people think it would work in the Terminator nightmare scenario,” Sankar said, saying that integrating AI into military technology brings “more of a difference of degree than kind.”
He’s right. It probably won’t work like how it works in the Terminator. It just might be way worse than that in due time.
Reminds me of movie named Contact.
Religious tension - Some religious figures in the movie feel threatened by the discovery of alien life, if we replace alien with AI in this context, everything still fits.
They worry it might challenge traditional beliefs about humanity’s special place in the universe.
For example, some protestors argue that if aliens (or true AI in our context) exist, it contradicts their religious teachings.
Fear of the unknown - The movie shows how some people react with fear or hostility when science crosses new boundaries.
Search for meaning - Interestingly, both the scientists and the religious believers are searching for meaning, they just approach it differently.
Scientists seeks truth through evidence and reason, the religious people seeks truth through faith.
The movie suggests that both perspectives are deeply human responses to the unknown.
The thing is, religion and science can work together to find truth and uplifting humanity.

a well known history of India’s first rocket launches…
There is no necessity that new boundaries are beneficial for humanity overall, so some skepticism is not unwarranted.
For eg., is the CTO of one of the most chronic capitalist companies in the world having humanity’s overall interest in his mind when he is invoking God? Only God knows.
Religious tension - Some religious figures in the movie feel threatened by the discovery of alien life, if we replace alien with AI in this context, everything still fits.
Isn’t that guy talking about atheists/irreligious people?
He should go lecture his CEO who’s been giving talks on the antichrist first.
I’ve been trying to find this to post it here ![]()
