Philips DVD player doesnt read external HDD w/ NTFS. What to do ?

Background: I hv this philips dvp3166 which has a cool USB, I am able to play most video formats usiing my 180 GB WD passport drive (FAT32)

Concern: I recently bought this 1TB Seagate freeagent external drive (NTFS), which i hv now loaded!! however when connected with my dvd player it says “disc not supported”

Research: the dvd manual says it only spports fat32 and not NTFS

so what do i do? I dont wanna format my drive to FAT32 & loose my data and i am not sure if there are software updates fr my dvd player… plzzz suggest.

Doesn’t have partitions, the entire 1TB is just 1 drive :frowning:

^ Whether its a couple of partitions or one single drive, the same is applicable :slight_smile:

^^ You sure that command is for converting NTFS to FAT32. Because AFAIK, FAT32->NTFS is straight forward using that command but the reverse (which is the requirement of OP) cannot be done like this.

The command is incorrect. Use that for FAT/ FAT32 to NTFS.

For NTFS to FAT:

Use Paragon/ Acronis Disk Manager

There you have a filesystem conversion option, that you can use.

Ensure you do not plug out the USB HDD during the process, and you keep the USB HDD in a stable place.

As the drive is large, it will take some time, couple of hours. But data can be retained.

Obtain the software and post back if you need more help m8!

@OP-I too use the same Philips DVP 3166.

FYI, it does not recognize anything beyond 40GB HDD through USB(btw, file format has to be FAT32)
