So this is not exactly an issue but rather a feature of discourse which may feel quite annoying to many users. For those who rely on browser history to track threads the discourse basically clutter the entire history by incl every post in the thread you see as a different url resulting in a sort of mess like this:

Just going through a simple thread resulted in 11 different entries in browser history.

This looks wonderful. The current theme (used by almost all Discourse websites) is horrible to say the least. So, user unfriendly.

Yeah the rules threads seem to have disappeared but. However, the rules were easy to remember, at least the basic ones. It is always a handwritten note mentioning username & date on a piece of paper as is the typical standard elsewhere unless the product is completely digital (like some voucher code).

Paper and pen preferred. Although digital is fine, as long as it is in your handwriting and not printed text.

Unless I am missing something, for me it is doing that on my end, not sure what problem exactly are you facing. It shows the thread according to the time they were created and if you keep scrolling down, more threads will pop up, it’s endless, letting you go back as much as you want.

You can create the button yourself, in the custom section. I know it’s not that easy as going to the category and sorting it there on the spot, but for now this can work for your frequently visited categories.

This gives you your watched threads, that too in thread order, thread created last will be shown first.

You can apply these filters on all categories combined, just one category or just one sub-category.

In my opinion relying on the notifications + new + unread, is enough to get you stay updated. On the homescreen the new and unread will show you all the threads in all the categories combined, but if you instead go the any category or sub-category, the new and unread should give you threads related to that category only.

This is very neat and powerful.
