this is friends x1800xt saphirre 256mb which got frm us…couple of weks back..
the card is showing artifacts in al games at all resolutions…:huh: .
things..like driver updates… etc were tried but fr of no use…
same system when used wid x1600xts in crossfire..ran wid no probs..:ashamed:

what are the temps of the card ?
hmm …maybe its artifacting coz of high temps or something …try replacing the stock thermal paste of the card with AS5 or something. make sure the hsf is properly seated on the chip.
and i hope ur friend is using a good psu.
65..AT IDLE..around 80 at load…seems normal for a x1800…
btw..he s using a L&c OEM 500w…

The card is dying / dead, Send it back.
Before doin that chck the card in another system.
there is your reason 
replace that junk with something better should be ok

even vij is using his x1800xt with the same psu without any issues iirc.
Yeah runs fine for me…that poowersafe 500w…No issues…
But again insufficient PSU wont cause artifacts will it…
could be the ram problem on the vga card. i dont think it can be fixed. u need to send it for replacement if its in warranty. also just incase try a diff psu & see.
are u getting the artifacts only in games or in windows & bios also.
That PSU should be good enough for an 1800XT.
Have you seen artifacts in games other than FEAR? I had some crazy video/audio issues with FEAR due to its problems with some audio codec dlls. Is there any stuttering too?
FEAR is very very GPU and CPU intensive and the card might be overheating.
He has probs at 640x480 too.
btw i m getting artifacts in games only… nt in bios or windows!!!
mine x1800xt works fine with max load.
i tried just HL-2 with max effects. will try fear today.
but till now havent faced any problem.
if you need to send it back to USA please collect details and post in this thread.
it will be useful for me also if something goes wrong in future.
Try removing .net framework and install it from CD comes with the card.
later you can upgrade just drivers. dont try to install it manually.
better if you install Fresh OS, SP2, Drivers with .net framework.
my half life use to crash due to wrong installation or improper drivers.
now everything is fine.

temps of 80 is fine, except while gaming its probably more like 90 cause the temp falls ASA you shut down the game…or even alt-tab
AS5ing the core will help, but I feel your PSU is the culprit. Check in another system before RMAing…which will be a pain anyways (considering the cards bought from the US)…
Those look like the drivers is causing them .. which drivers did u try ??
i hv tried lot many drivers… the one that came in cd i.e. cat5.8 i think.. then all all versions till 6.1… the prob persists…the card shows atifacts in HL2, in all games…in games like HM blood money…however shows diffrent artifacts.than the one shown in the pic…ll post screenie latter… nt a PSU PROB BTW…cheacked in a system wid coolermaster realpower 450..& in my system wid antec 500.

6.1…thats old… I suggest you try 6.7 they’re stable… I have problems with the x1900 with 6.9, dark crusade has missing text in places…

the best card within 25k is the GeCube X1900XT 512MB
Doesn’t make sense spending 25K on an X1900XT.. put in 4K more and get the BIG 8800GTS.
