The motive is to build a database of know facts and resources for the PS3.
Presenting a few facts that I have found out. I welcome and encourage other do build on this. Being new to the PS3 myself, the suggestions are noob, something I haven’t found myself in a single arranged place on TE.
if in India, sign up with a US address so that you can access the PSN network , add friends and access the PSN store.
To watch HD movies on the PS3, you will require this tool - MKV2VOB
PS3 supports various Internet connectivity options including PPPoE & web page based login structure. ( An error may pop up during initial setup, however you can continue and a connection can be established. The link does not seem to terminate like it does for the PC on browser close, unless the logout option is selected specifically )
A normal USB mouse and keyboard will work with the PS3 for browser usage.
Any downloaded internet movie made from Xvid and Mp3 should play flawlessly.
The Sixaxis controller you get along with the PS3 can be used with windows to play games. - Use SIXAXIS along with your PC
You can always download and move your .avi / divx format movies into your pen drive and play 'em directly on your ps3. (thats very easy , no dvd’s required ^_^)
( Many other formats supported. Check the ps3 website for details )
Yes @ Sony World..
It’s rather better off for people to order via KMD or someone you know overseas. Anywhere would do whether its Singapore , United States or w/e it’s way cheaper out there than here.
Backward Compatibility - Tell me one person who’s gonna get old ps2 games and play them on the PS3. Even if he does , the PS3 won’t play them properly and will give you loads of video errors.
Memory Card Reader & More USB Slots - Get a USB Hub with 100 USB Slots done and you can get a memory card reader as well for the ps3 there are many PS3 accessories available throughout the globe , but of course there’s a reason why Sony removed these slots , basically because it wasn’t used by anyone and was there just for the sake of being there.
No Dualshock 3 - The 60GB Version has no Dualshock-3 based controller included.
More Power Consumption - Obviously the old ps3 version consumes more power and creates noise as well and the newer version has obviously been worked upon by Sony and consumes less power as compared to the earlier versions of the PS3
HDD - Finally the HDD is 20gb less which makes it further useless.
PS - you can google everything stated above and i assure you all of them make sense.
Anyway , if you are planning to buy a new ps3 , get the latest one. The 80GB would be the real deal. Even if you plan on getting the 40GB , that’s good enough but don’t go for the 60GB version.
PS - Here I am talking about the latest 80GB version with the latest firmware and stuff.
Also the 160GB version is just another NEW 80Gb version with increased hard disk space for like 3Grands more not even available locally at the moment. I personally don’t think you would require more than 80GB HDD. Even if you do , you can always update it in the future i guess.
IMO , 80Gigz would be more than enough. 65% of the PS3 users currently still have the core 40GB version. It’s a Fact.
Yes , 22,000 - Full Box Packed w/all accessories i.e USB Wire , 1 x Dualshock 3 controller , booklets/manuals etc.
My frd got ps3 for cyber cafe and he to need buy controller for it.
Don’t need Dualshock 3 controller. Is there other standard model for less then 2k
How many Controller can we connected with wire usb ?
Where can i buy it from mumbai ?
Where i buy game local in mumbai ?
It would helpful if someone can provider me phone for shop or address…
I am noob when it come to consoles
The best place to look would be alfa @ Irla, Vile Parle(West).
AFAIK the PS3 supports 8 controllers at the maximum but controller support varies from game to game. Ps3 controllers do not come in a wired configuration. they are all wireless with a miniUSB port provided for charging.
Hi all, great thread. I haven’t bought PS3 yet but looking forward to it but b4 I take the plunge I want to know a few things.
Can a PS3 act as a Home Server? I mean File Server for access anywhere, Storage Controller for a External HDD attached to it via USB and also as a Streaming Server?
Can it also function as a “Download Rig” or a “Torrent Box”?
How big are its firmware updates?
Can normal BSNL Dataone broadband work on it?
What is the average power consumption of PS3?
What’s the maximum size of Internal 2.5" HDD supported by it? Does it supports 7200RPM HDDs too?
Well these r some of the things that r in my mind presently and wud like answered if u all got the time. :ashamed:
Average update size is usually upto 100MB. But the size may vary depending on the future fixes/features added on it. For eg: The recent v2.50 firmware weighed 137.39MB.
It will. If you have a wi-fi router, it would be easier to configure.
199W - While gaming
175W - Watching DVD
185W - Watching Blu-Ray movie
2W - Idle mode
AFAIK, as much size as you can afford. It supports FAT32 formatted HDD’s & people have plugged in sizes of upto 500GB. I’m not sure if you have sizes more than that for a 2.5" drives in India. As for 7200RPM, it would support that too, but won’t create much difference in speeds (2.5" drives).
I got this information off a simple Google search. You can wait for people who actually own the console for their experiences.
