I have a 40 GB PS3. Currently it does not play any Internation DVDs. I have some Blu Rays which I got locally which it plays. Can someone tell me in detail what kind (region wise , PAL/NTSC wise) of DVDs and BDs will it play?
It depends on the region where you bought your PS3 from, if you bought it from India then make sure that you purchase Blu Ray discs belonging to region C or DVD of region 5.
I think DVD’s are region coded. Not so much for Blu Ray. Afaik, Russia and India fall under the same 3rd zone for Blu ray. WHat this means in the long run is cheaper movies. But it may come with a wait. You should be looking for movies for region 3 for bluray. Most DVDs in India combine the region 2, region 4, and region 5 codes.
You are wrong. You are confusing region-locking with NTSC-PAL. They are not the same thing. GTA4 is NOT region-locked. But if your TV (SDTV) is only PAL-compliant then it will not play any NTSC game/movie etc. Even if you play a NTSC VHS tape through a vcr on your SDTV, it will not work.
In other words, the deficiency is in your TV (not being multi-region) NOT in the game or the ps3.
you are confusing others more after making this post. i never commented anything about video playback. all i said was about all the ps3 games not region free. and i repeat, GTA 4 IS REGION LOCKED. even though the SDTV is capable of NTSC and PAL, simply gta 4 PAL wont play on NTSC console with SDTV and vice-versa. i have done the hw pretty well and i am saying this after personal observation. google and you will find the answer. also same was the problem with GT5P but it got solved after a game update. there are a few games more but i dont remember their names.
In short, SDTV users need to take take care of the game region if gaming on SDTV. if you are gaming on HDTV, then no problem regarding game regions.
