PSU Selection

Was looking at higher efficiency PSU.

Wanted to know if anyone using PSU with efficiency over 80% and their experience. Also with wattage over 700W.

I had seen :

Cooler Master RS 700 AAAA A3
ThermalTake 800 AH5NFS
OCZ - Z650
Enermax - Genesis or ERV range
Also would be great help if you know where one can find PSU from Thermaltake, Enermax or OCZ in India.

None that I know of. We’ve dealers for Thermaltake enclosures though. 2 cents.

Go for Corsair with eyes closed…650 watts for approx 7.5k.

@LBM … not for me .. one person in office who is very research and buy kinda geek

so he got this link

80 Plus PSU List

and was inquiring by this

Welcome to Corsair :: TX Power Supply Product Information

Check this out

http://www.80plus.org/manu/psu/psu_detail.aspx?id=25&type=2

Get Corsair HX620 .

as recommended by others buy corsair.

depending on his consumption get either the hx620 or the tx750.

HX 620 can handle i7 with GTX 295 with ease.

Or Buy TX750 if u want to SLI GTX 295 AND Overclock ur i7 965 badly :face_with_tongue:

But plz dont look at anything other than Corsair.

Why even the CM range should be pretty good in the real power series. I know Corsair is the best available, but why not look at other stuff also…thats wht i did and am very happy that i did tht..

yes Corsair definately sounds best … Presently in Indian market except UCP version of coolermaster is higher… apart from that none other…

but CM UCP are damn costly and are modular which isnt preferred.

so was asking bout Thermaltake or Antec or OCZ vendors.

Say No to OCZ or Thermaltake… They dont know how to make PSUs.

Antec is good vfm for <550W..

550W + is dominated by CM Real Power Pro and Corsair

Hi Sato…

honestly I had very little idea…

so after reading we thought important aspects were

  1. Wattage

  2. efficiency at various load stages

thus from there… was talking bout Thermaltake n OCZ as they are the only Gold winners in 80 plus. Corsair & CM have no Gold 80 at all. I was my self surprised to see that.

Check this list they have details of almost every manufacturer and ratings of all PSU’s

We are taking company support, warranty, costs, real wattage PSU gives, temp Rating into considerations.

Also if we consider them to be gold and other normal we would be having a saving of 90%-84%-> 6 % only.

And if we compare the above factors I can give away 6% for my peace of mind.

Sorry Sato, but have to disagree with you here, OCZ’s PC power and cooling have some of the best globally recognised PSU’s. I would not say that OCZ does not know how to make PSU’s by a long shot. As for availability in India, I dont think it is available, but its superb none the less.

@LBM

company support, warranty, I would definately say they matter … But then they might matter almost on all goods we buy from KMD too as its manufacturers warranty in the end.

costs, - They are more competitive if u compare international rates. More over you might even get some cheaper.

real wattage PSU gives, - That is Higher. Check the PDF for Corsair 750/750 to Thermaltake and you would find they are impressive.

temp Rating - Would say not only temp but also silent would be something to factor and a Cooler Master UCP collection in comparision has lower Db there too…

I am with all of you when u say these arent available and thus should be avoided. But lil difficult to buy the argument that Corsair are best… Best of the available lot thats it…

^ mav, you have a ocz psu if i m not mistaken. why not do a little review of the same?

yup me was thinking the same

Well I am not really that technically adept, but the PSU performs as it should. The good thing about it is that you cant hear a single whir from the fans and it still runs very cool to the touch even after intense gaming. One of the most importnat things for noobs like us is the weight of the PSU. Normally the better a PSU is built the heavier it normally is. This PSU was about 1.5 times heavier than my previous CM 460 extreme power.

The ratings for this can be got off the web so I will not go into that, but its a 80% plus certified PSU.

The price of the gold rated would be much higher…

And if we compare the net prices of all three…thermaltake,Cosair,CM..

Newegg.com - Thermaltake W0116RU 750W Complies with ATX 12V 2.2 & EPS 12V version SLI Ready CrossFire Certified 80 PLUS Certified Modular Active PFC Power Supply - Power Supplies

Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Power Supplies

Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W ATX12V / EPS12V SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Compatible with Core i7 Power Supply - Power Supplies

The Thermaltake is for 160, Corsair is for 125, and CM is for 130.

Even if you get the KMD route it will turn out to be expensive, than the price available here due to the shipping weight.

The wattages I was refering is that the Cosair is underrated in terms of what is written on the box…like this…

And I agree the Corsair are one of the best but not best of all available. That makes it the safe bet.
