Rahul Gandhi Urges Unity in Fight Against Air Pollution

I had to post this in separate thread .
It is very interesting to see that when something effects them also. They talk about unity and stopping blame games.

Now I am still going to praise Rahul for this positive thought and finally trying to work on solution together instead of just going around the bush.

But my point is…
It is very unfortunate to see that common man has to wait for his problems to become big enough to also cause problem for our Politicians to get effected to really get working on it.

I heard his speech his speech today and I must give him the credit he deserves. The suggestion made by him to not to blame each other and not to look at past as to what could have had been done rather discuss on what can be done is really commendable. This is the kind of role I expect from good opposition.

I completely agree. It is very much the attitude this country needs now more than ever,

And I pray this positive approach continues for other important issues.

However, One cannot deny the dark side of this which I mentioned on the OP. that for us common people only to get proper attention from babus is when our problems reach their doorstep.

That is our actual value .

Now watch then ban more older vehicles and making it impossible to renew for those vehicles.

honestly, thats pretty obvious, why will they take the burden to discuss issues that wont fetch them browning points during election. Only a small affluent class cares about these problems, the major mass is still thinking about the base tier in Maslow’s Pyramid.

India should implement UK like procedure that if a petition gets 100000 signs from the public, it has to be discussed in the parliament. Obviously the number would be higher in India’s case lets say 5% of the population.
This wont do much good but atleast issues will be highlighted

I like the idea but i feel it will join vote chori allegations and become sign chori .

One thing that came be done to mitigate this, that politicians wont be allowed to create petitions. Only individuals and NGO can create petitions and it will be handled by the ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. Another clause would to allow only socio-economic or purely social problems.

The biggest reason for pollution is the stubble burning in most northern states from Sept to Dec. Because of the Himalayan wall, the smoke keeps on circulating in the north and some of it comes down to the south upto Goa. When I mentioned about this on reddit, some idiot pointed me to some AAP Government data which mentions stubble burning contributing to as little as 2% of NCR pollution. But if you travel from Mumbai to Delhi during winter, the first thing you smell in the air is the burning smoke. I believe it’s not 2% contributor but 70% contributor.

Now I also saw some videos where farmers in Punjab/Haryana were celebrating stubble burning because they considered it anti-central government. This was during farm laws protests.

Next would be to undertake massive cleanup of cities and villages. The garbage rots and gives out methane, ammonia gas which plays havoc with our respiratory system.

There has been so much innovation where stubble could be converted to ethanol (Gadkari’s wet dream). Whether it’s possible to do on such a large scale? I am not the expert. But disposing of stubble in safest way possible should be the topmost priority of all the state governments, muncipalities, gram panchayats.

its not economically viable but the government can provide subsides and incentives to do it and will still save money due to the reduction in heathcare cost. The reason for stubble burning is lack of time, after green revolution farmers started doing 2-3 crops per year so they dont have time to manage the stubble. Due to use of harvesters and other modern equipment the stock never leaves the soil that makes it very time consuming to pluck out all the stock away. They finds it most efficient to just burn it away. The govermnment has to promote the use of machinery which cut the crops closer the roots and which tills the field so the left over can be used as mulch and even organic matter for the soil.

Ethanol is whole different saga, we continue doubling down on ethanol then very shortly we will face food storage and even more pollution due to forests being cleared for sugarcane cultivation.
