Refurbished Moto X 2nd gen or Nexus 5?

Hello,

My iPhone 4 is just about dead (proximity sensor not working, very slow because of ios7, screen flickers…) and I’m looking to buy a new android phone, but I don’t have much of a budget. I can stretch it to 15K at most, but I’d love to stay under 10k. What is the general opinion on refurbished phones? Are togofogo, overcart etc to be trusted? I can see good deals on the Moto X 2nd gen and the Nexus 5 on these sites and both these phones are attractive to me. Here are my answers to the questionnaire:

Updated mobile phone buying advice template for 2015. Updated questions which are more relevant in this smartphone era.

Questions:-

  1. Budget?
    A: INR 5k-15k

  2. Preferred display size, type and resolution?
A: 5", AMOLED preferred as it saves some battery power, but not absolutely necessary

  3. Preferred operating system? (Android (with version), iOS, Windows Phone etc).
A: Android Kitkat (4.4) and above. Stock android preferred.

  4. Preferred connectivity options? (4G, 3G, 2G etc).
A: 3G, 4G would be an added advantage

  5. Do you have any brand preference or dislike? Please name them.
A: No preference. Should have good service network. I’d like to have a Google phone.

  6. What is your intended use for this phone (internet, camera, multimedia, mails etc.)?
A: Excellent call quality is most important. Messaging, light surfing and emails come second. I also use flipboard/kindle a lot for reading.

  7. Single SIM/ Dual SIM?
    A: No preference

  8. New or Used? Online or Offline?
A: New. Don’t mind buying online. Specially looking for a good refurbished deal.

  9. Any other requirements?
A: Need good battery backup, microSD card slot if internal storage < 32GB

  10. If you have already considered a phone, then please mention the model
    A: Moto X 2nd Gen, Nexus 5, Xiaomi Mi 4i

Try the mid range phones. You have multiple options… Zuk Z1, redmi note 3, moto g4/plus, le2 etc etc

I use a manufacturer refurbished Moto G3 (bought it around April this year) and so far it’s been working flawlessly for me. Bought it from a site called valuekart and they offered 6 months warranty (Don’t know if they’ll honour it as I haven’t got the need as of yet - so far everything looks good).
If you can handle a bit of risk, I’d say go for a refurbished model.
