rig for 40k

a pal of mine wants to buy a new computer spending 40k max.he will be using it for games, music, movies and for running design programmes like autocad.i suggested the following configuration to him:
amd anthlon64 3200+(7k)
asus A8N-VM motherboard(6k)
2*512MB DDR2(533mhz) transcend RAM(4k)
160GB SATA HDD hitachi/seagate(4k)
DVD writer sony/lite-on(3.5k)
cabinet with 400W SMPS(2k)
keyboard-mouse combo,logitech/microsoft(1k)
Samsung 17inch CRT monitor(5.5k)
altec lansing/creative 5.1 speakers(5k)
TOTAL COST:38k
is this good?please feel free to suggest any alternative combination and modify any prices.
could we cut costs somewhere and get a graphics card too,or a mobo with better onboard graphics?(this guy isnt a ‘gamer’ but future games will need better graphics).

i think your prices are on the higher side…

3200 - 5.5-6k..

dvd writer - 2.5-3k…

5.1 speakers - 4k

160gb sata - 3.2k

so you easily save money.. you can go for a better psu or a gfx too :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: .

gaming rig with onbaord video ???

sorry, made a mistake.DDR2 RAM is not supported by AMD.so make it
DDR-400mhz RAM. :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:
abt the graphics card, perhaps we could get the 3000+ proccy, cheaper speakers and get a Geforce 6600 graphics card.
whatsay???please help!!!
would it make any sense to go in for a intel pentiumD proccy?

chic_magnet,u got a 6600 card?what do u think of it?how much does it cost?

u must get a 7600GS or a 6800GS for ur rig dude ..

how much will either cost?
btw,i read in another thread about the 7600GS being incompatible with the ASUS A8N-VM motherboard.is this true?

umm get an A8N-E then ! … and get a 3000+ … and some arctic silver 5 thermal paste …

amd anthlon64 3000+(4.7k)
Asrock Dual sata2 (2.8k)
2*512MB DDR2(533mhz) transcend RAM(4k)
160GB SATA HDD hitachi/seagate(3.2k)
DVD writer (2.5k)
keyboard-mouse combo,logitech/microsoft(1k)
Samsung 17inch CRT monitor(4.9k)
altec lansing ATP3 (2.7k)

this is coming to arnd 26k get a good power supply like powersafe 500w and a decent cabinet and spend rest on gfx card.

If you’re going to buy a card, why go for the VM at all? Bought one for my missus and it’s no great shakes. Might want to look up the Asrock/ A8NE suggested by the others..

^^ ya agreed..its way better to buy a card and be happy with it.. get a 7600gt if ya can afford it.. or else a 6600gt would be fine.. i think even now it goes for 7-8k in the market…

for speakers hmm.. i think you gotta decide to what you wanna give more weitage.(err spellchk pls) … music… or movies and games.. if music then get the atp3. .or else a good 5.1 speakers. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hey Guyz…my COz wantz to get a new sys under 30K…with Gud 2.1Spkrs…pls suggest…AMD or Intel???Heard Intel Zeon is gonna overtake AMD…plz suggest…n wat about dual core???Also wanna know best VGA/Graphics Card n Monitor (Preferably LCD)…with UPS…All this under 30K…Possible???Any Suggestions???

if we were to get a ATI chipset based mobo like the MSI-RS480 and then an nVidia graphics card(GeForce),will the gfx card work hassle free.
this popped into my mind coz i read in a magazine that latest nVidia chipset mobo doesnt support ATI gfx card(or was it vice-versa,cant remember exactly).
could someone please clarify?

here’s the final configuration we have decided on.what do u think of it?
amd anthlon64 3000+ 939pin(5.5k)
MSI RS-480M2-IL motherboard(4.5k)
2*512MB DDR400 transcend RAM(4.5k)
160GB SATA HDD (7,200rpm) hitachi/seagate/Western Digital (3.5k)
DVD writer sony dru820a/lite-on 1693s (3k)
any cabinet with VIP/Antec 400W SMPS(2.5k)
keyboard-mouse combo,logitech/microsoft(1k)
Samsung 793s or 794MG 17inch CRT monitor(5.5k)
altec lansing ATP3 2.1 speakers(3k)
XFX Geforce 6600GT 256MB graphics card(7k)
TOTAL COST:40k:)

  • A64 3000+ proc price seems a bit high. Prices almost everywhere have dropped to around 4.7k

  • Try getting a DFI RS480 board. Will overclock well (unlike the MSI which has zilch overclocking), should cost around the same

  • DVD writers, try looking at the Benq DW 1650 or the LG H10a instead

  • 2.5K would be hard to squeeze in an Antec SMPS. Powersafe would be fine.

where did u find that??? Its the RS 482 which is available in itdepot :face_with_tongue:
