I have a Corsair Survivor Stealth flash drive that I am currently using to carry documents on the go, daily. These documents are of course backed up on separate drives as fail-safe. I wanted to know if there is a way I could secure the drive (encryption) through a software? I was reading online and Veracrypt seems to be the most recommended software to do this. Is it a good, trusty option?
The drive will only be used on my home desktop PC and work laptop, that’s it.
yeah Veracrypt is good u can also use Cryptomater to store the data on cloud storage as well [since its encrypted it won’t be an issue and +1 copy of a backup] u can also use luks if u want to try
now that I read u already have a backup drive now since Veracrypt requires u to sync the whole encrypted part for any small change u will have to backup the whole allocation u gave to Veracrypt but with Cryptomater it encrypts individual files so its easier to backup in increment [this is what I remember]
I will give Cryptomator a try then. I will need to watch a video or two on YT to know how to go about the using it though since I’ve never used these encryption softwares in the past. Hoping it’s simple enough.
Will veracrypt/cryptomator work on a work pc which typically has many restrictions & a guest acc by default for users? Wouldn’t a better solution be just using 7-zip to create an encrypted archive using AES256 & modify the archive whenever editing existing document/adding new documents? I think 7zip executable can be run even with guest acc access on windows.
