Share your files (Updated)

You got a file which you want to share with your friends.

Fine
you have the following alternatives:

  1. Dropload

Old service. Pretty limited in the sense that you can email the file link to only one person at a time. However it displays the full uploading info and is cool if you just wanna share a big file with one of your friend.

Recipients you specify are sent an email with instructions on how to download the file. Files are removed from the system after 7 days, regardless if they have been picked up or not. You can upload any type of file, mp3, movies, docs, pdfs, up to 100MB each! Recipients can be anyone with an email address

Pros: The large file size of 100mb and progress indicator
Cons: very feature limited, can’t share with multiple users. Files deleted after 7 days irrespective of anyone picking them up. Very slow uploads.

2) YouSendIt

Cool service with a snag. Interface is clean and good. Uploads are fast. Basically you upload a file and then it gives you a link which you can share with others. The file can be downloaded through the link a max of 15 times unless you do the following hack

**Step 3**:
Paste link into browser and download like normal. It will redirect you to the regular Yousendit page. Now with no download limit.

Prosp: Clean interface. Fast upload. Upload progress indicator along with a max file size limit of 1GB, Encrypted and secure., Works with Download manager.
Cons: Pretty hard to say. But mostly the link dying. Won’t happen with the hack above.

  1. Rapidshare

A very nice german site. No hassles with this one. Just browse your file and upload. Max file size supported 20MB. The biggest advantage is that any number of people can download the file. Usually a file if not accessed will be deleted after 30days. Certainly the easiest to use among the lot. Flip side is that you see lots of ads and while downloading you have to wait a few sconds before you can download.(Not thats it really matters but then its a bit of a nag)

Pros: Easy to use, and download, No download limit. Any number of people can download the same file.
Cons: ads ads ads, and a waiting time to download the file. Site has popups too. Max file size only 20MB. Does not work with download manager.

4) PutFile

Here is another cool service for sharing the files. Dedicated linux hosting. It lets you upload images, flash or movies. The files also remain on servers for a period of 6 months without anyone accessing them. Although there are restrictions on the file size and formats, this is still a good long term alternative to rapidshare. wmv .avi .mpg .mov .asf .swf supported along with all image formats. size limit: 2MB for images, 10MB for videos and flash

Pros: Long term access. Flash upload supported. Good reliable service. Easy history mantained via IP address. No logins required.

Cons: A very small file size limit. Application upload not supported.

OUR TAKE:

For images nothing beats imageshack. There are other sites around but no point going there till imageshack is around.
For files, My choice was yousendit. It looks good, is secure and supports large files. And with the hack links don’t die also. Definately the best in its class
Enjoy!!
