Single slot GPU?

Looking to buy a single slot GPU for media center workloads, and maybe to fit into a MiniPC or SFF 10" rack build.

Current options:

XFX RX 6400

  • Worst performing for Media

  • Best looking

ASRock A380

  • Seems like the best overall option, considering it’s hard to actually get/buy the Yeston model

Yeston RTX 3050

http://www.yeston.net/products-detail/id-148.html

  • Seems like the best performing option, not sure why you’d want this though. Just go with bigger GPU if you want to play higher performing games, or stick to the Intel one for media playback/transcoding.

There was supposedly a Flex line up of Intel cards, but I can’t find those anywhere. And there’s also this particular GPU (which I also can’t find?):

What kind of workloads are you specifically looking at that requires a dGPU ? Asking as if it’s just transcoding, even the iGPU will suffice.

Transcoding would be an almost continuous workload, and some light game streaming as well.
Immich would probably use it for its ML Model as well.
The reason I don’t want to focus on the iGPU is simply because:

  • The chipset might not have one, or might have a very weak one.
  • Since the CPU might be under load due to other stuff, also running its iGPU might heat it up even more (as is the case for AMD APUs ime)

Oh, their other components look very promising as well! Thank you for this link <3

This overheats and throttles the gpu, Check Jeffs Garage video. Probably under volt it.

There’s also [RTX 2000E ADA](’

) which is the most powerful single slot card you can get (factory fitted). But if you decide to go with nerdware coolers, it opens up pathways to [RTX A2000 12GB](’

), [RTX 2000 ADA 16GB](’

) and ultimately [RTX 4000 SFF ADA 20GB](’

) (not to be confused with [RTX 4000 ADA 20GB](’

), both of which have 4070ti class die).

I was able to haggle the cost of 2000E to 57k, and 4000 SFF ADA to 118k. But ultimately settled for 2000 ADA for 58k from easyshoppi:

  1. Best Price to performance

  2. Supports Frame Gen and DLSS 4 for gaming

  3. AV1 encoders ([higher quality streaming over slower speeds](’

))

  1. 16GB VRAM with FP8 support ([accelerates AI inferencing](’

))

  1. Small enough die to be cooled by single slot coolers (which the 4000 SFF ADA struggles with as outlined by @@jayanttyagi)

I was able to order a nerdware cooler using US Shipping group. Costed about $111 + shipping (~12k INR).

rx6400 is a good choice in single slot

RX6400 doesn’t have any kind of encoders, something to keep in mind.

Yep, which is why I listed it as “Worst performing for Media” in the post itself…

Go for the dual slot , Low profile RTX 4060. Has a 115w TDP and will excell at all of the above mentioned tasks. You can have one at <30k new
It can transcode well.
Do great gaming at 1080p .
And simple ML inferencing with 8gb

If I wanted to go for dual slots, there are really many options. I can’t go above physical limitations of single slots as of now. So there’s no point looking at those cards.

And again, if I were to go for dual slot or full size dual slot cards, I wouldn’t have to ask since I could pick basically any card.

Why not something older like Quadro P1000 or T600 via the used market?

Additionally, check your CPU and overall transcoding requirements. The Intel iGPU is usually good enough for basic stuff.
