[Solved] Has anyone used a ASUS ROG gaming mouse ? Help please. (TL;DR : mousepad problem)

I just got a wired ASUS ROG Gladius III. Whenever i get a new mouse I just plug in the USB cable and it works. It may need some other software/driver to fine-tune it.

However the ASUS ROG Gladius III does not. The clicks work ok. But the cursor does not move - or moves a bit with a jerky action and very slow.

I’m trying to install the Armoury Crate software but it seems to be like massive - now more than 500MB download and still going on ! WTF.

So anyone else had a similar problem? I’m using W11 BTW.

I doubt that the functionality of the mouse would get affected by lack of Armoury Crate. Have you tried plugging it in a different system?

I tried on two systems. Rebooted. Unplugged and replugged. From Device manager I uninstalled and reinstalled. Nothing helps. Armoury Crate software seems to be 4GB or something !

try it on VM linux

OK, problem resolved. But don’t ask me to explain.

I used the mouse on two systems - one has a silicone mouse pad the other has a felt on top and rubber on the bottom. I faced the problem on both.

I then, for some reason, decided to try without a mouse pad. And … it worked. On both systems (with no mousepad).

Then I tried again with the mouse pad and it seems to be working ok on both systems. LOL.

I just came across this :

Additionally, you can calibrate the Gladius III for selected Asus ROG mouse mats, or manually to your own surfaces. If you’re prone to lifting, you can also choose between high and low lift-off distances to reduce the chances lifting will affect your play—a luxury we don’t always see in supporting software apps.

So maybe the mouse needs some “house keeping/initialization/calibration” on first run.

It means the mouse initially requires a mat like surface to operate and then you make the change to make it run across any surfaces just like other mouse brands. This is crap imo. If asus wants their mouse to run on mats they should have bundled one.

Just to be clear : I did not use any software. The mouse seems to have self-calibrated on first run (without a mouse pad).

Wait till you start seeing its services impact on day-to-day performance of pc. There is a reason Asus Armoury Crate is infamous on reddit/many online forums. It is only matched by Razer software in infamy.

I’m not installing Armoury Crate on my main system . I have a test system . Hoping that the mouse has a “memory” - I forget the right term. It should have that because the mouse can save 5 profiles.

It should have onboard memory but certain functions/features likely require a running service in the background as per some comments I saw though not sure if it was for armoury crater or razer.
