Suddenly Dual Layer DVD Doesnt get detected

Wrote many DL DVD’s recently and now suddenly they arent getting detected by DVD-RW Drive. ive got Lite-on DVDRW 20X. dunno wats the problem  did firmware upgrades last month and is there any way to bring back to read DVD DL again?

DL’s are being read perfectly but doesnt get detected when i insert a blank DL DVD for write.

Tried 4 blank DL dvd but same problem :frowning:

Last thing u can try is cleaning the lens. It sometimes works also try changing the cable
Have u cross checked those DL?or else firmware update screwed it!

Nope. nothing screwed it. it just doesnt read blank DL dvd’s. i just recorded 1 DL a day back… and i did firmware upgrade last month.

how do i clean DVD Lens? ive got a SATA DVDRW so wat to check in that? should i replace cable and check again? i dont think cable is the matter in here cause it takes like 1 minute to get detected when its in and light keeps on blinking for 1 min, after a minute, nothing’s detected or showed up :frowning:

Normal DVDRW/CDR works

even GTA or Burnt DVD-DL works in reading. it just doesnt read blank DVD-DL!! ive got 4 blank moser baer DL and it doesnt read all of them since the last burn!!

Help!! if nothing turns out, i will have to buy a new optical drive?

Is it still in warranty…??

No i think its not in warranty :frowning:

im very sorry but htf can u read blank discs?

Yes. blank disc can be read :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I have a similar problem…But instead of fimding the problem I just bought another drive… :face_with_tongue:

Guess I will try lens cleaning…In my case I can’t burn DVDs only CDs can be burnt and read is working fine…

Should i buy a new drive? :open_mouth:

Its just like heart attack of second stage.Soon or later your DVD-RW Drive will find house of dead.Let your DVD-RW Drive enjoy end days happily.

^^ oh man. this drive is sparingly used. not so much of DVDs and CDs are burnt :frowning: anyway my dealer said he will loook into the problem and rectify on monday :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

In Optical drives following is my experience of sucky drives:

Lite-On (DVD DL Prob and current problem) worked only for slight more than 1 year

SONY (TRAY PROBLEM , DL Writing ERROR) worked for almost 2 years

SAMSUNG (Tray Problem but fastest drive) 6 months but CDRW drive. after that never took samsung brand again!

dunno which other brand to buy now :frowning:

It might be due to a kaput lens , it has happened to me as well in the past.My Lite-on DVD-RW which bought in July 05 , was very expensive at that time 4.5k , I had to change my drive’s lens in Jan 07 for Rs.500/- to get it fixed.

DVD-RW are dirt cheap these these days , buy a new one , best option

okay ill get another DVDRW and keep it as write drive and the current one as read drive :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: 2 x optical drive! oh god 2005 days are back where i used to keep always 2 optical drive since 2000 :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

^^Try to clean the lens buddy before getting a new one who knows it might slove ur pblm ..
Its easy search for few tuto

what DL media ur using ?

Guys, ive got it started again. It read DL. but just to check it again, i ejected drive and again put it in and same problem started again :frowning:

MoserBaer. works on my laptop but not on pc.

^^Lens Pblm :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

again it started to work once in night after restarted, again tried ejecting and putitng back in and same problem :frowning:

i think it needs replacement

which burning software r u using ? i encountered a similar problem a few weeks back…my single layer dvd was not getting read as DVD but as a CD…and hence was showing 0 bytes…soon i found out that the “InCD” component in the Nero 7 was causing the problem…i then uninstalled Nero 7 completely and the reinstalled it again by unchecking the InCD component and this finally solved the problem and DVDs were getting read again…
