Suggest a room heater pls

pls suggest a good room heater guys. my 30 yr old dumb one just died. nothing fancy just good built is needed. checked amazon and mostly all are plastic built ffs

get good quality oil heater. It will be serve you a long run and there will be no issue of oxygen depletion too so good for general wellbeing too. They are a bit pricey as compared to normal heaters but they are totally worth it.

Which one would you recommend?

I mean from the ones available in India ofc.

They come in different sizes as 9 fins, 11 fins and 13 fins. for room size upto 200sqft 9 fins should be sufficient, for larger room sizes look at 11 fins or 13fins.

Speaking of brands, the well established ones in the likes of bajaj, usha, orient electric, morphy richards are good enough. More or less all will be same, chose based on your needs and price.

Yes i did consider the oil based ones but for only 2 weeks or so they are a bit expensive. I mean almost 5 times the price of the normal oxygen sucking ones

If not oil based, you can check out PTC heaters as well. I’ve been using one from a brand called Warmex (model: ptc 99n) since January 2021. It works quite well. The only con is that the oscillation mechanism has become a bit noisy now, but that’s fine.

I also have 2 of those typical cheap and rebranded plastic heaters, and they feel worse in comparison as they make the room feel drier, don’t get as hot, and the area coverage is lower in comparison. Plus, I’ve had really bad experiences with those as one (two?) literally caught fire, so I’d stay away from those plasticky cheap generic ones as it’s literally a gamble, because some have really subpar components. I should probably replace them…

But if you can get an oil based one, they’re a great buy. Out of all the different ones I’ve used, they feel the best. I think I have one from Usha. It was quite expensive (8k or so 7-8 years ago I guess), but worth it in the long run.

11 fins oil heater is evergreen choice for a decent size room. Never faced any issue.

Just got Nuuk Hot Bar PTC heater for portability. Happy with the performance so far.

Take a look at this SQH800 SQH800 Quartz Room Heater on Flipkart

We are using this for the past 4 years and it’s working great until now.

Jokes apart, oil based always. Fin size depends on room.

I live in the mountain areas most of the year and so been using all types of heater.

Firstly .. THe one above posted by @bssunilreddy is what I initial used and it is really decent but not as room heater but more like personal heater and that too you need to keep very close to yourself. No way it is room heater unless you live in Tokyo like 95sq.ft rooms.

I can recommend Oil heater fin one …it will keep room heated for little while longer even when shut off .

It is one time investment but totally worth it.

Otherwise You can use Kerosene Heater Chinese one.

I have this…great for a small room but needs decent ventilation also otherwise your room will be filled with carbon Monoxide and it could lead to even death.
SO be very careful.
It is cost effective…easy to fix yourself, Just needs the rope thing to be changed every one year or 2 year( I am using same for 2 years not changed yet) and 1 ltr kerosene gives me good 4-5 hrs of burning time.
You can even adjust how much heat you want.

there are some new smaller designs one nowdays .
I got them In Delhi btw. Kolkata I could not find it.

In Delhi if you need . I can give you the address.

They are extremely inefficient in terms of power consumption. Technology connections has made a great video on PTC element though that was based on PTC element mini fridge.

Edit: Ignore this message. I got confused made an error

I’ve actually read the opposite of that, but haven’t seen any real world tests. From what I read, they’re supposed to be self regulating, so they limit current based on it and hold that heat. They should be energy efficient by design. I’ll check the video out though. Thanks for sharing that.

Im really sorry I got confused between PTC element and peltier element. The video is about peltier element rather than PTC element.

Nuuk Hot Bar PTC heater have ECO mode which automatically heats at 1200W instead of 2200W with auto cut feature. It’s expensive though and build quality is decent only. Portability and smart ECO mode are two major plus points.

Get the highest speced oil based heater you can get. Try to prioritise for features like number of fins and capacity instead of any smart features and the heater will last forever unless physically damaged.

2 weeks for 10 years or more.

These ofr heaters are power hungry. Based on my night usage alone (which isnt that much and I turn it off mid way), the electricity cost is approx 300rs per night. I have a 13 fin havells hestio.

Heaters are 100% efficient because all inefficiencies in electric circuits are released as heat. Therefore you don’t see energy efficiency ratings for them. So, all heaters will consume the same amount of energy.

The only thing that is going to be more than 100% efficient is a heat pump (AC operating in hot mode) because it transfers heat and not create it so it can have effective efficiency of greater than 100%. So, if you want to get a lower electric bill for the same amount of heating, you will need to install a hot and cold AC and operate it in hot mode. But, it still makes the room drier compared to an oil heater.

how is that possible, they are rated at 2900w and even if you consider 6hrs a day and energy cost to be 10/kwh, it will come to 174 not 300

The cost is directly from the smart meter installed for our appartment. I noted it down before turning on the heater and then checked in the morning. I have installed a smart plug to monitor exact duration and power consumption and then correlate with electricity consumed (cost) via the smart meter app. Will monitor this during the next run.
