Suggestions needed for 1.5 ton 5 star split inverter ac

same as title, from my initial research, all the Japanese brands (Mitsubishi Heavy, OGeneral are out of budget) (Daikin,Panasonic seems to be in budget) have good reviews

Wifi and inbuilt air purifier are nice to have have but not necessity, if the price difference excluding these features is marginal then i’ll opt for models without these

Avoiding LG because of past bad experience with their service of my front load washing machine

Amazon listings looks like a mess, there are multiple models listed, some have launch year info while other’s simply don’t have it

I bought daikin non-inverter in Chennai and their latest scam is you have to refill gas when you don’t use it for 2 months long OR else no cooling.

If you can stretch the budget then get Ogeneral or else Haier. If no budget get Panasonic with extended warranty or if you live in North try godrej if their service is great.

Note that if you live in a area with less dust and no insects then get inverter or else always NoN inverter.

this doesn’t sound right, can you please provide more info on this, i am from north india, if this is true then gas refill every season would be a major expense

it’s almost 12-14k more than lg,panasonic, daikin, that will be too much premium

Cruise
Godrej

Panasonic works great for me. Reliable service (atleast in metro cities) and good warranty options. They have recently started giving out 6 years comprehensive warranty for additional 499+gst.

Comes with Matter wifi and full google home integration if that’s on your list.

I like to turn on my ac few minutes before I reach home and that’s a lifesaver in scorching heat.

Service engineers swear by Daikan though. Easy to maintain, service and works solid 24x7 is what I heard and witnessed as well. Most of the commercial spaces rock Daikan for this reason alone.

the models sold for commercial installations are same as retail one ? are you referring to individual units or the centralized ones

I was going to suggest lg cuz I had good experience with them.. Both for my ac, and fridge.. Even they fucked up my front load washing machine, but they got it fixed and extended my warranty for an additional year, so..

As for an ac, you can also look at whirlpool, and samsung, I had good experience with both.

Also, idk if this is a thing in other cities, maybe do ur research, but if u are from delhi, search “BSES AC Scheme” on google, they offer discounts if u are replacing your ac, they don’t care if the ac is dead, a guy will uninstall ur ac and literally destroy the compressor in front of your eyes, my guy told me that this is done to prevent these inefficient ac’s from going into the market again..

They only deal in 5 star ac’s, so.. I got my 5 star lg ac from this scheme about 7-8 years ago..

Ofc this only applies if you are looking to “replace” an existing ac and if such a scheme is available in your city..

Cheers!

Yes they are the same one especially in hotels, stores, waiting lobbies etc.

The only ac brand that gave me issues that were never solved..

Maybe we got 1 in a 1000 bad unit, but my experience was really bad..

Got one for my grandmother years ago.. it wouldn’t cool and stuff, nobody could fix it, this problem that problem, we later replaced it with a different lg ac, and shifted the godrej to a different room in hopes of getting it fixed, but it was never done and even that was replaced with a whirlpool in 2019..

But this was like 15 years ago, we never bought any ac from godrej again

Not all 5 star are same. I dunno how they are allowed to list old 5 star models as 5 star with tiny disclaimer in text.

Standards changed this year, old 5 star are now 4star. New 5 stars are more efficient with ISEER 5.6 / 5.8 vs 5 / 5.2 earlier.

Which brands have good service in Mumbai ?

Its quite dusty and humid here, any brand that does better in high humidity/dust ?

I always see ACs leaking water eventually. Is there any way to prevent this ?

i had almost decided to buy daikin because of positive review geeky ronjit and there were also praises about the brand on the forum
but it seems like daikin hasn’t launched new models for 2026 yet

There are the models available on amazon and both of these have a iseer rating of 5.2 whereas this panasonic model Panasonic 1.5 Ton 5 Star Premium WiFi Inverter Smart Split AC (DustBuster Technology, Matter Enabled, AI, 55°C Operation, Higher Airflow, Copper Condenser, 8in1 Convertible, 4-Way Swing, PM0.1 Filter, CS/CU-NU18BKY5WX, 2026 Model, White) has a rating of 5.8, cooling capacity of panasonic one is lower by some 100w but, considering that, panasonic one is still about 10% more efficient

I also checked the iseer rating of my 2020 lg 1.5 ton window ac (5 start model) and it’s just 3.5, i don’t remember exactly but window ac’s has always lower isser rating for the same 5 star models

@baranwal your daikin ac still good ? long term review please

Called service center of daikin, they quoted 1400 as installation charge and 800 for stand

yes window acs are less efficient for same ratings, dunno why.

How to ensure installation is done correctly

LG 1.5 Ton 5 star -

Good build quality, PCB less prone to failure, comparatively less noisy(indoor unit), a decent quality remote, Gold fin coating on outdoor unit, wider services network and faster respone time.
Comparatively less peak cooling, extra parts and labor are almost 3-4x actual pricing, remote lacks backlight. Some complaints about the ac cooling going down after some months of use but i mostly suspect lack of general cleaning.

Panasonic 1.5 ton 5 start -

Some models offer PM2.0/PM0.1 air purification (may or may not be a gimmick), Comparatively very Good cooling, Wi-Fi and smart features at regular AC price, 2026 model with higher efficiency and coating on Ubends.
blue coating (Gold is considered better)
Outer body is more prone to rusting with cheaper bolts on the outdoor fan unit. Plastic body on 2024 and beforewas said to be not so good but they seems to have improved on 2025 and 2026 models, cheap feeling remote.

Daikin 1.5 ton 5 star -

Easy to remove for cleaning/service (the main reason most technician recommend it), Remote comes with backlight, PM 2.5/1.0 filter(gimmick or not you decide), Good outdoor unit noise level, Thicker outdoor unit fins.
blue coating (Gold is considered better)
No smart features, Limited convertible options.

Hitachi 1.5 ton 5 star -

Good build quality, Decent cooling on their premium models, decent remote
2026 good models are not easily available on flipkart/amazon yet atleast in my location.
the once available on flipkart is the lower cooling models(4800w) the good models (5400W cooling) are mostly available offline.
A bit of cost cutting done on the outdoor 2025 outdoor copper tubes, Plastic smell on new units for a few months.

General suggestion: Get your own stand, water drain pipe, copper tubbing and extra white wrapping tape and insulation if required, everything you buy from the installation people will cost you a lot more(2-10 times more). Get your AC installed with enough clearance on the top if possible 20-30cm would be ideal it not only improves cooling efficiently but also noise levels with better air intake space. If possible get it installed in a place where there’s no direct sun exposure or rain for better durability and efficiency (Like in a balcony or under the concrete window shade preferably a easily accessible place.) Use a blower regularly to avoid frequent need for professional cleaning both on indoor and outdoor unit and just the keep the room clean. Don’t forget to the get the vacuuming done during installation, just tell them they need to do it during the appointment call itself.

Refer to Energy efficiency rating for actual cooling performance or tonnage. Diet/convertible mode don’t really matter you are only cutting on performance let the ac just do it’s thing. Air purifier filters on the ac is fairly small they just do little things. Services and installation is handled by 3rd party it’s mostly depending on the people whom you encounter.
LG installation cleaning services are done by flipkart jeeves warranty and services experience will always warry.

Smart features might be very useful to have especially where you can set the temperature during your sleep time where you might need lower temps to get into sleep but want the temps to go up around 2-4am by 1-2 degree C for uninterrupted comfortable sleep, better customized towards your liking.

Some AC have sleep mode where it does raises temps every 30 min to an hour but that’s not really that comfortable as the temperature climbs too much and you find yourself sweating again.

Then again there are devices that converts non smart ac into smart one by giving inputs to the ac just like a remote, slight ugly and need to be powered by AC mostly.

every ac works fine if installation is done properly. on the basis of noise, creaky sounds form vents & swings, cooling times and remotes, daikin, bluestar etc. are usually better than voltas/godrej.

I think cooling wise they are among the best. I live on the top floor, so the room heats up quite a bit, but the AC is able to bring the temperature down quickly. I usually set the temperature around 23 during June/July and sometimes I still need a bedsheet in the morning.

I’m also happy with the power consumption. Since the top floor has a separate electricity meter and in Delhi we get 200 units free and up to 400 units at half charges, my electricity bill last summer never went above ₹1200. Overall, I would rate it 4 out of 5.

One thing The outdoor unit is bigger than many competitors and a bit noisier, so keep that in mind. The indoor unit noise is fine though.

However, the installation experience was poor (1 out of 5). The technicians didn’t bring a vacuum machine and refused to drill properly through the wall, claiming their drilling machine was broken. Instead, they drilled a few small holes and then hammered the rest out.

Also beware of installation and their parts charges. I had to cash out around 10k for whole installation.
