Mega fan of the Threadripper platform here. Initial gens had some teething problems but since Zen 2 (I have a 3970X build) it’s been excellent for those middle-ground consumer HEDT enthusiasts.

I’m worried about the pricing though
eager to replace my 3970X with a 9970X or even 9980X but current motherboards in the market are pro-level need ECC RDIMMs - I’m waiting/hoping for new motherboard launches that will support regular non-ECC DDR5 UDIMMs.

So seems NO non-ECC non-registered regular/cheaper DDR5 UDIMMs for the 9000 series - mentioned around the 10 minute mark onwards. Even AMD’s website just mentioned DDR5 ECC-RDIMM 6400mhz support - at least the speed bump is good news. Waiting for ASUS motherboard news update for 9000 series support. Itching to upgrade - likely closer to this year-end only.

Why do you need 9970X? What is the purpose?

Mainly for software development and related usage like local kubernetes, some dabbling in AI workloads.
