Say hello to Core i9
Intel’s upcoming flagship client processor, codenamed Gulftown will get the higher Core i9 marker. This 6-core chip will have every performance enhancing feature in the book available, including a total thread count of 12, and a 50% increase in L3 cache over Bloomfield, at 12 MB. This chip will retain compatibility with existing LGA-1366 socket, and X58 chipset, and will be available in Q1 2010.
Intel differentiate the processors in series of markers such as “i3”, “i5”, and “i7” on the merit of performance and features they offer.

Is there any reason to have different socket types? People used to tell that AMD is the one who keep on changing socket types but this is ridiculous.
^^exactly..
different sockets for lynnfields , blooomfields , clarksfiedls(ok this is mobile so has to be)..
why do they want us to chng our mobos every year?
oops i thought i have given.
thanks for remembering.

i didnt even get my hands on i7…and now i9…damn
Good thing they’re keeping the lga1366 platform alive
Its new it will be alive for along time. but wha tare we going to do with 6 cores.
Wow.. Awesome roadmap Intel has come forward with
The only led down is socket selection and pricing..
They are planning to sell the cheapest i3 for $260 Fudzilla - Cheapest Arrandale to sell for around $260 so what will be the pricing of higher i5 and i9

Not just socket:
Core i5 45nm Lynnfield will be supported by P55 chipset but Clarkdale 32nm won’t(check table).
^^Check the table again.. Some 32nm counterparts are made for Mobile not for Desktop computers..
