Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon Thread!

Looking forward for it. Megan Fox if present in the game will be added advantage :face_with_tongue:

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon Thread!

Considering how bad the first two movie based games were, I will probably skip this one.

Only good Transformers game was War For Cybertron.

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon Thread!

It’s the same developers that created War For Cybertron, so I would probably give it a shot. I’m surprised they didn’t announce it for the PC this time.

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon Thread!

Know what? I’ll wait for your review before I try it.

I played War For Cybertron only after you opened the thread and were raving about it. Well worth the shot I guess because it paid off and I had tons of fun playing the game.

So, review please. :face_with_tongue:

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon Thread!

IIRC, there was a 30 fps cap on the PC, right?

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon Thread!

Which could be easily disabled by pressing a key. The cap is removed this way.

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon Thread!

Definitely! I’m waiting for the movie much more than I am for the game. But I’m curious to see how this game turns out, seeing how it’s based on the movie and not a direct sequel to War for Cybertron.

I had posted the 60fps unlock hack in the game’s thread. I, personally, didn’t try it was available after I was done with the game, but it’s confirmed working.

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon Thread!

Didn’t know. 30 fps cap automatically for me means that the developers aren’t interested in making a proper PC game. So if this releases only on the consoles i won’t mind a bit.

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon Thread!

Since this game isn’t announced for the PC yet, so if it arrives on the console, expect the 30fps to remain. On the PC, there would be room to unlock it by some hack. Too bad consoles don’t have this option. :frowning:

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon Thread!

Good news for people using 3.55 CFW on PS3, the retail European patch for this game would enable the game to be played on 3.55 firmware. Go figure! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon Thread!

Aila! :jumpy:

Re: Transformers: Dark of the Moon Thread!

Time for download then :ashamed:

Will begin the game after completing Starcraft II. Oh boy that game is in a different league altogether. :face_with_tongue:

Completed the title yesterday. I’ll try summing up the experiences briefly. Oh and the game serves as a prequel to the movie so this isn’t going to spoil anything. :face_with_tongue:

The game draws a lot of resemblances from the previous title War for Cybertron, which was developed by the same developer High Moon Studios. Third-person modes with the ability to switch between bots and vehicles. The only difference here being there are 2 vehicular modes - a partially transformed vehicular mode with weapons protruding and specific abilities such as lock on and strafing available AND a fully transformed vehicle which can use nitrous and drifting to get around corners (ahem!) and quickly transport to a location. vehicles and their respective bots have different abilites. Bots are aggressive and can wield powerful arms and execute melees whereas vehicles are agile and stealthy. Arsenal includes assault rifle, plasma cannon, shotgun, grenade launchers etc. Combat can get intensive at times as well. Driving felt a bit clunky - the GTR types. A bit too realistic!

The graphics isn’t all great with the UE 3.0 engine - passable. Lack of AA is evident. Level designs are good - ranges from broken cityscapes to forests to underground military facilities to icelands. Character designs have been done neatly as in the previous titles. Not much changes there. Performance wise, I suppose the 30 fps cap is still present although it doesn’t hamper the gameplay much. There are those occasional frame drops during intense battle sequences though.

Health is regenerative and recovers gradually. Special abilities recharge over time and some others require energon shards to recover. There are boss battles at certain locations with their health bars indicated. In addition, some of them may require some specific component to be targeted at and brought down.

The other major difference being there are no independent campaigns for the Autobots and Decepticons, unlike the previous titles. As a result, the campaign playtime is drastically reduced. The in-game campaign has 7 chapters and each chapter barely takes half an hour for completion in the Normal difficulty, thus very short - clocked roughly 4 hours for completion. During the campaign, the characters switch between the Autobots and Decepticons. Playable characters include:
Bumblebee in Chapter 1, Ironhide in Chapter 2, Mirage in Chapter 3, Soundwave in Chapter 4 who can deploy Laserbeak, Starscream in Chapter 5, Megatron in Chapter 6 and Optimus Prime in the final chapter.

The game concludes on a note with Megatron asking Shockwave to head to Chernobyl to search for some artifact. The plot continues in the movie hence.
Pretty decent game marred only by the short gameplay time and the outdated UE 3.0 engine. Nothing new offered in terms of gameplay compared to previous titles. A 7/10 from me.

Completed the game last night. I’m heavily disappointed with High Moon Studios. After giving us such a promising Transformers title (War for Cybertron), this is the best they could do?

First of all, I’m not sure why they had to go in for a prequel and name it Dark of the Moon. They could have just made a sequel to War for Cybertron. Anyway, the gameplay is dumbed down. Not only does your health regenerate, but you have unlimited ammo as well. Each Auto-Bot and Decepticon has 2 main weapons and 2 special abilities. Vehicular transformation is robust, but the controls in the vehicle form are absolutely pathetic. You have to hold down LT to switch to driving mode, else you would just be gliding like a hovercraft and get this, you turn using the right stick.

Voice acting was done by their respective movie characters, which is decent. Graphics were unimpressive and the frame went all nuts in heavy action scenes. The only chapter which I really enjoyed was the one with Starscream. I love arcade flight action and this was just what I needed. The initial chapters are really dull and repetitive. When it starts gaining momentum and looks like it could be a good game, we hit the credits. Also, this game was very short. I’m talking 7 chapters and 4-5 hours short. Overall, I think game really lost all it’s steam in the beginning and wasn’t a satisfying experience as War for Cybertron. I hope they now focus on getting WfC’s sequel out.

They need to stop making these kind of games
