Ubiquiti in India?

I am considering replacing my entire Asus AI Mesh setup (3x XT8 + 2x XD4) with a Ubiquiti 6 mesh setup. Anyone have a guide on what components are needed? And reliable dealers in India/ Pune apart from the ubiquiti.in website?

You need different things .

  1. A controller:

a. This can be self hosted on Windows / Linux /Raspberry Pi based machine. But this is very unreliable

b. You can buy Ubiquiti’s Cloud Key which is Ubiquiti’s dedicated hardware to host network software. This is very reliable than self hosting.

c. You can buy a Cloud Gateway device which is Router-cum-network hosting. But this type of device needs ventilation as it does heat up.

  1. A gateway

a. The product has Gateway in it’s name. This device does routing, firewall and network rules, IPS/IDS filtering

b. Another alternative is get product that has Cloud Gateway in it’s name. Then you don’t need a dedicated controller. See 1. c.

  1. Access Point

a. You can buy any Ubiquiti Access point and it can be adopted through controller/network software

The big problem or the Elephant in the room:
The Ubiquiti website for India is outdated and hasn’t been updated for 2 years with new products. It’s like they have given up on India. All the product on their Indian website are severely outdated by almost 2 years and it’s pointless to buy from there. Your best bet is to import it from US via some forwarding service or get help from members here. Another hurdle is that Ubiquiti US website does NOT accept Indian credit or debit cards since last year. RP Tech are their official Indian distributors but dealing with them is an unknown territory.

The major source of these issues is our Finance Ministry who levy insane duty on US products and indecisiveness of Telecom Ministry to release 6Ghz for Wifi. Hence no Router company has launched latest and greatest networking devices in India since 2 years.

If you can get any product via your relative or friend in US, then it’s possible. Be prepared to forgo any warranty.

Fantastic info. Here is my plan then:

Cloud Gateway Max
U7 Pro x2 + U7 Lite x2 or U6 Pro x4

Let me figure out if Wifi7 has any real meaning for next 2 years then decide

Year go i got a DreamMachine SE and 3 Access Points from a authorized dealer. Check the IN website for store dealers they can get you any model.

im also thinking of replacing my tplink range with ubiquity stuff, but want to wait until indian govt allows wifi-7 (6ghz band) and now that news about wifi-8 is coming out (its supposed to focus on quality/reliability rather than more speed) i can wait even more …

yeah i had noticed too indian website is very outdated - likely due to local restrictions on wifi-7 and 6e (6ghz bands)…

I have 4 U7 Pros imported in India from US. But 6Ghz is disabled in all phones released in India. You can get U7 Lite which retails for $99 + Tax in the US if any distributor is willing to sell in India. It doesn’t have 6Ghz radio so it should be legal to sell here. The U6 line is outdated and will possibly get limited firmware updates or new features.

Apart from mobiles. 6Ghz works on all devices.

Yeah I know, my tplink xe75 mesh units work (wifi 6e) too but when I went to purchase more units they’re not on the website anymore. I dont bother with 6ghz band, 5ghz wifi-6 works well enough for me. will just wait now, hope wifi-8 (with 6ghz band not just fake wifi-7 or 8 with only 2.4 and 5ghz) is available asap and in india too.

It would be available in India but not on highly regulated devices such as mobiles. Govt is being pushed to keep 6Ghz in restricted licensed use only, it maybe partly due to ISRO use as well. Official 6Ghz will not be in coming anytime soon.

  • Telecom companies want to use the 6 GHz band for 5G and 6G technologies.

  • Tech companies want to use the 6 GHz band for Wi-Fi.

  • The Cellular Operators’ Association of India (COAI) wants the 6 GHz band to boost 5G coverage.

I moved most my devices to 6e even the ones that were earlier on ethernet.

I have had success with buying a Ubiquiti switch from

https://fgtechstore.com.

They provide same day delivery in Mumbai.

They also have the Unifi Express. This lets you setup a Wifi mesh without the 6Ghz band. It combines cloud gateway with Wifi 6 AP. UniFi Express 7 is the newer version with a 6Ghz band but unlikely this will get to India.

correct I can easily connect to 6ghz on my MacBook and every other device only my phones wont connect

they all charge a bomb here
jan 2024 I got my udm pro from dubai ubiquiti store used shop and ship by aramex and paid 5600 in delivery and 1000 in customs saved around 12k from indian pricing

dont take u6 pro stick with u7 now afaik

U7 pro doesn’t have 4by4 mimo in any band.
U6 pro might be better option if more 5Ghz clients.

Ubiquiti India store got some new additions like UCG Ultra and U6+ etc. Not state of the art, but better than last month.

i actually have an issue the other way, my mobile devices do 6g, but windows laptop doesnt

My update - will be buying in the US.

Guys what UNIFI setup would you suggest for a parking +3 floor setup. about 1000sqft each?
I have Decos setup right now 4 M4 and 3 spare x60. With R7000 running on Tomato custom firmware.

Wanted to upgrade to Unifi cause of the software experience and granular device level control.

I was thinking of importing UGC Fiber +2 * 2.5gb 50$ switches and 2 U7 lite Access points (1 for each floor). Don’t have any wifi 7 devices yet. But even in the US store UCG Fiber isn’t available most times. Next option is UCG MAX from US or UCG ultra from India. Ultra doesn’t have whole stack and I was hoping to try Protect since it supports other cams too now. But to get started quickly could get Ultra for now and sell later?

What did you get?

Hey Guys what do you want to know about Ubiquiti you can reach out to me I have trainer certificate with Ubiquiti and I worked for 2years with them currently working with HostiFi

and I have YouTube channel content related to Ubiquiti.

If you want a compact setup go with UCG Ultra and U6 enterprise which is WiFi 6E and available in India. But if you want to import from US go with UCG fiber it is great. UCG Max is also good option since you can run UniFi protect camera also it got NVME SSD tray
Selectable NVMe SSD storage
up to 2 TB for NVR. I have there full ecosystem.

I have a UCG-Max for sale. But this forum doesn’t give me the necessary privileges to post.
