Yeah that’s why I had also messaged similar thing earlier. I noticed when read this thread as well! Didn’t even know before
Might just be a me thing, but I find levels kind of demotivating, especially if not properly managed… Suppose people become slightly more egoistic and toxic, and are like, “Level E? Who cares about your view?”. In such a scenario, I’d just lose any motivation to continue contributing and would just become an observer.
Thankfully, that hasn’t been the case here yet and everyone has been very warm to my posts, which makes me want to continue even if it’s just short posts that might help a few and not some high quality, big blog level content…
Also, how crazy that back in 2010ish, toxicity in forums was so common and I used to ignore it, but now it has become demotivating haha
Level 1, Level 2, makes more sense than A, B, C.
There could be more steps and less step differences
Another suggesion :- Can we have option of selecting tier 1,2 cities so that we can find TEians from our city.
This looks simpler and calls for more contribution ![]()
Ahem, I’ll do you one better.
1:5.4 here. ![]()
I’ve honestly never cared about these levels and account tiers but now that it’s been introduced, even if the affected users might be very small I would like to suggest a proud badge for the earliest members who signed up on this forum and are still active like those who joined when the forum was founded or till 2007.
And personally for me if I can somehow get Level S and remain there regardless of my contribution that would be epic. ![]()
There’s too many levels to even care about now. Plus likes factor on top of it. So no one is going to get salty or start getting any ego on such a trivial matter. We are here to share and discuss so such things are just a bonus. And Level E does not necessarily mean a person is stupid. Every one has to start from the bottom. Could be a Level E guy is really very smart or a genius in tech. Plus every one here started at the bottom years back. There’s toxity on Reddit but people still visit it. I just laugh it off now. It just makes those people look childish and immature to me.
I personally like where it is clear as to how old the user is. So, years as a member, messages, likes, should be a good idea. Like @@tearphones suggested. I am merely stating a preference. At the end, it probably does not make a difference.
Yeah, it seems to me that forums have matured with age. People mostly become more respectful and less edgy as they grow up. OTOH, Reddit has gone the way of Facebook and Quora now. Everyone and their uncle and auntie are now on reddit whereas before, like 7-8 years ago, it used to be a less known platform. And it is so hard to hold a conversation there. People just can’t seem to use common sense. The day is not far when along with your city and state subs, you will see your neighbourhood subs too over there and you can unwittingly read about lafdas between your neighbours. I try to block out unwanted subs but Reddit keeps putting new shit in my feed every day.
Sorry for the OT. Getting back to the topic, I also think too many levels devalue the whole ladder. I see now that they are grouped in different colours, like dark grey for lower levels and then Sky Blue for H onwards. I don’t know how to feel about that. On second thoughts, I don’t envy the mods one bit. No matter what kind of changes they propose, some of us will always point out some flaw or propose a different change.
Couldn’t agree more. In fact, I think, we they should probably start with automating the closing of sale thread or having a bot that will send alerts to when someone refers to @ mods so that it will be easier for the mods to keep track. Not everyone might not know who to tag.
I agree, the mods will always end up hearing bad critic no matter how good of a change it is, since we all think differently. That said, I’m really thankful for the mod team here! You guys rock.
I wonder if XenForo has a public API, and some playground that we can test it on, maybe that way some of us can contribute for making the forum even better, like the suggestion above for closing old sale threads or where “@mods” are being tagged…
You are going to get all these nifty (nice) features, get removed…
I love that I have been upgraded to the Sky blue color category. ![]()
That’s it. I am out of the race. LOL.
@@napstersquest @@buzz88 - Love your purple colors. Must be wrt with the ratio.
1:2.5 for me :writing:
Pff, you are ruining the ratio by posting here, only 3 likes for that post. ![]()
I have always like stats more than arbitrary levels though. This seems to be more like schools using grades to placate students instead of marks or Bernie’s idea of handing out medals instead of points for the F1 championship.
I am yet to understand the rationale behind all of this. There are just too many levels and unlike the previous mechanism, it’s more obscure for the lack of a word. Sorry but I am finding that I care even less for the non descriptive hierarchical alphabet attached to a member.
If we dont care now and we didnt care earlier, why are we bothered with it?
Whatever we cared earlier it is no longer the case now. Perhaps this thread can be locked as it is done and dusted.
Granted it may seem odd or maybe even an eyesore, but lets let it be. We can always revisit it after a quarter or two (months not ml).
What is the logic behind the colours? Did I miss that post?
