Want similar performance to my GTX275, which card to get?

I am happy with the performance of my current XFX GTX275 and want to upgrade to a DX11 enabled card which has similar performance. I know DX11 will eat into the performance but since i am on a 720p monitor and play mostly less graphic intensive games “Valve” i think it would suffice.

This says that GTX275 = HD6770 which is weird because my GTX275 beats my friends in a fews games. Non the less the new HD7770 seems tasty is there any other cards i should consider?

A 6850 should be very close, perhaps slightly better than your GTX 275.

A GTX460 too would be very close.

Amongst newer cards a GTX 560 or Radeon 6850.

I don’t know how good a 7770 is but it may cut it. I doubt a 7750 would cut it though, expect worse performance with a 7750, a 7770 is a lot better than a 7750.

So just check some 7770 reviews and if they are within 5% performance of a 6850, then you are good to go.

Go for a HD6850. Power Consumption is almost half of that of your Current. Rest it will be par with your GTX275. Or as rite sir suggested check some reviews for 7770. If>6850 go for it if less choose 6850. IMO buy the one which is more vfm if they are comparable..

Okay first up, you have not mentioned a budget per se. So please tell us what is your budget for this venture?

Also what is the configuration of your current PC build? Processor, RAM et al.

Depending on your budget I would recommend you go for a Seasonic S12II 520W SMPS ~3700/- [if you do not have a decent SMPS already] and the cards that should be in the reckoning are –

AMD HD 6850 1GB ~8500/- [great value performer, can drive most current titles @high detail at 720p resolution as you seek] http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/37286-amd-radeon-hd-6870-hd-6850-review.html / http://www.anandtech.com/show/3987/amds-radeon-6870-6850-renewing-competition-in-the-midrange-market

nVidia GTX 560 [non-Ti] ~10500/- [a more powerful performer, it will have a credible amount of fire-power for upcoming titles, downturn is power consumption is on the higher side] http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/geforce-gtx-560-amp-edition-gtx-560-directcu-ii-top,2944.html / http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/43366-nvidia-geforce-gtx-560-1gb-review.html

If you seriously intend to cap everything under say ~10000/- then following is what I would recommend –

SMPS → Corsair CX V2 430W ~2500/-

AMD HD 7770 GHz edition ~8300/- [performance is poorer than the HD 6850 but will last you for 1 – 2 years @720p resolution]

AMD HD 7750 ~6500/- [strictly if you are restricted by an anaemic configuration and do not intend to play upcoming titles at anything more than medium detail @720p]

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

Hope this helps rite.

A point to note is that there are many games where a 7770 can’t compete with a 6850, whereas there aren’t many games where the vice versa is true.

Also, this is especially true in Dx9 games.

So if you want a balanced card which can play even older games (read 2-3 years old) then a 6850 or GTX460 is still a better bet compared to the 7770, especially for Dx9 games.

For only games, 6850 or 7770 would do, but 6850 may be better overall.

All this is according to the link you gave.

Here is my rather old config:

Athlon X4 640

ASUS M4A79XTD EVO

Tagan TG600-U37

4GB@1333Mhz

Bulldozer does not work on this mobo so cant upgrade the CPU

My budget is 10-15K but i want a card that ideals/2D on the lower side since the system will run almost the 24/7.

So true i have asked for prices from the local venders and here the 6850@9.6K is more expensive than the 7770@8.9K but if the 6850 is worth the extra money i will get it. Now off to see power consumption fig’s for both.

For just a 700 rs difference, anyday buy a 6850.

And a Tagan 600 watts should hopefully be fine

The 7850 will take at least a month to be available easily and would cost in excess of 14k at launch. But if you can get it, then it can compete with a GTX 580 once overclocked. Won’t help you though as anything beyond a 6850/6870 is an overkill with your system

Hope this helps, Cheers!!

If the difference btw 6870 and 6850 is less than 2k, anyday go for a 6870. Going further won’t help until you get a Core i3 or even Core i5 quad

I already have a 3rd party cooler its a Cooler Master V8 so it can handle a overclock but i am not the same person i was in 2010 I would rather prefer running stock. Valve is suppose to have their engine reworked to support DX11 and tessellation in the next game so DX11 might comes as an important feature, HL3 is bound to have new tricks and twists.

I say hang on for a bit and get something like a 570 or 6970 2nd hand from the market. Even a 6950 is a great upgrade for you. Dont settle for something less it wont last long enough with games that are coming up.
