I’m going to be getting a one within this week… what are the good choices and approx. prices?
I guess Benq 1650 is supposed to be good but I dunno about its availability, so would like couple of other alternatives too.
LG H10A or Benq 1650.
The dealer is asking Rs 2650 for h10a and Rs 2900 for sony dw-180. Too high?(i’m from a smaller town so, probably Rs 100 higher). Which should I get?
Also, according to him, benq drives give problems and so he doesn’t stock them(though I think he was talking about rom drives).

Woah ! That’s a damn good deal …
Don’t buy Sony DVD-Writers…They really suck in my opinion…I had bought a Sony Drive and its CD reading/writing part conked off a week after the warranty expiry date…(unlucky me)…Also there’s a friend of mine who has a problem with reading/writing DVDs,again a Sony DRive…So i would advice you to stay away from SONY drives…Other hardware manufacturers are just using SONY as their bait to try their hardware…
@ chiron : i am not much sure about ernakulam but don’t go for anything more than 2500( i am talking about benq & LG ) especially when price of DVD-Writer is reduced.

U really wont have problems with a BenQ 1650. Its a very nice DVDRW. One of my friends use it, n he always recommends me to buy one.
Is the Sony DW-180 or Sony DRU-810A?? if its the latter buy it without a second thought!!
Yeah, sorry… I’d just remembered the 1 and 8 in the name. And I asked around a bit more and just bought it for 2.7k; a couple hundred more doesn’t matter I guess, esp. when I had gotten a geforce2mx for like 8.5k(now that was a bad purchase).

Which DVD Writer emits lower noise than others?
I had an LG Writer; it used to compete with my Creative 4.1 in terms of the noise. 
Now I am looking for DVD Writer, it need not be the “quietest”; but anything that doesn’t make noticeable sound is fine. Any recommendations?

Second that,the 1640 is very silent.
I think you should prefer LiteON, Benq or SONY (BOX Packed). I bought tooday a LiteON (8.5GB DL) DVD Writer for Rs. 2150/- and it’s really an amazing one. SONY OEM Version are quite risky ones so you should prefer BOX Packed ones.

Both are box packed.
Benq 1650 he says he does not stock them as they have a pathetic after sales service (I have had that experience with a Benq Monitor)
So what do you says which one should I buy

Sony DRU-810A is basically a benq 1640. It can be crossflashed to 1640 firmware also.
