which DVDRW drive ?

iam confused between three DVDRW Drives

choices are:

Sony AWG170A

Sony AWG170C

Sony AWG170S (SATA)

any other suggestions will be considered too

but no Samsung, MSI, LG & Liteon please as i cannot trust their latest drives

Budget: Rs. 1900

so please help

I have the Sony AWG170S (SATA) Drive which writes at max 18X (on a National DVD-R 16X, the MoserBaer 16X gives max 16X). It took 5-5:30 minutes at 18X.

I had even tried out the Lite-On LH-20A1P which writes at max 20X (on a National DVD) and takes away half a minute off the writing process.
I preferred the Sata drive over the IDE drive since there’s less clutter in Cabby and it’s easy to detect the drive although I paid more for the Sata drive and got less writing speed.

Try the Pio 111,aka the Asus 1608P3s.. it has dropped in price.

Otherwise, I’d still recommend the LG H42 or even the SATA H62 if you can find them. Another interesting-looking drive is the Samsung 203.. SATA, and early reports are quite promising.

Asus 1608P3S’s & LG H62’s cost?

and howz the Sony AWG170C & AWG170S?

any BenQ’s?

^Should be ~1900-2K or so. Sonys are meh.. nothing special, but they would do in a pinch.

No Benqs out there are worth it, unless you get the 1655 (1500, last I heard).

whats the cost of LG H62?

sadly nobody keeps BenQ in Kolkata :frowning:

so it’s mostly gonna be the Asus 1608P3S

any Pioneer SATA Drives available in India?

Asus is a good brand to me .. nothing specific .. get one SATA from any brand should work fine. You should be more careful about the media u getting.

yes i know thats why always got Samsung, Moser Baer Pro or Sony for CD-R’s & Moser Baer Pro, Maxell, Sony or Imation for DVD+R/-R

Udit .. you from Kolkata . mind sharing some info regarding IT hardware stuffs in Kolkata ? if yes ..I will take this offline.

nopes i don’t mind will talk to you on msn/yahoo/gtalk tomorrow

see you then ..

i got the Sony AWG170S (SATA) for 1.85k :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

got it as I found buying a PATA drive pointless in today’s age

anyways i will be installing my Akasa Shinetsu Thermal Pads (for my 8800GTS), Auzentech HDA X-Plosion 7.1 Sound Card & Sony AWG170S SATA DVD-RW Drive together on Friday

Excellent, please post some photos of the pads and a small review & installation guide as well

I’ll be waiting for the review

Are you referring to the OEM products? I think they are not fake, since the product IDs are valid we get the firmware updates for those on the official site (although the site maybe in Chinese, so you have to use Google translate for that  )
