Which PC speakers to go for ?

Except for speakers I have upgraded all of my rigs component and I think I need a good set of speakers. Thanks to the HQ addition (curtsey Te members) I am not looking for some lousy sound producing boxes. Instead I want some good quality output. I will be upgrading from an old Altec Lansing AVS300.

Here’s the catch : I have a budget of around ~6k and I will be pairing the set with the ALC888 for now. Maybe I will buy a decent soundcard or a mobo with better sound later :face_with_tongue:

Anyways I have narrowed down my selection to : -

  • Swans M10

  • Edifire C3

I am more focused towards Swans but the bass thing is a little led down. While the C3 couples the set with an Amp. So which one should I go for ?

So I want your opinions regarding the speakers , as far as the budget I cannot exceed it more so please do suggest within that if you think theres a better alternative available.

Regards

Swans M10 - 6.5K shipped by Road. From what i have read through countless forums and thread this speaker system clearly kicks Promedias arse. All is well except the Bass which is bit tied down as you mentioned but i really doubt that C3 would even match the M10 suond signature. Though u forgot to mention the usage scenarios. If its for music i think it would suffice.
The main problem with Swan is that you cannot go and attach a sub woofer down the lane if u feel the bass isnt enough.
For that you have the M Audio Studiophile AV40 speakers which at 10 K i feel are the best of lot a you can attach a sub woofer later on too

Usage will be casual (Full HD movie) viewing but the primary reason is for music listening basically Trance, R&b, Rock and little Metal.

I can increase the budget for swans but anything else its a no go.

There are other reivews if u check the Hardforum where is compared with Klipschs but i found this review quite unbiased tbh.

The only Edge Promedia has is the Bass. The highs ,Mids and vocals are by far much better in M10(C3 is not even in the range ). The way i see it is that if u listen to “Rock and little Metal” more then you should go ahead and buy this. Remember its 6.5K shipped so u dont even have to step out of your house to buy these. Bty i didnt get your location. These speakers are shipped from Chennai so if anyone in chennai can audition these for Trance and revert back you are all set.

But why not save for some time and invest in a M-Audio AV 40? I am saving up for the same.

Considering that i am in the market for the same , i need to know how good these are for heavy metal. I am also in death metal , symphonic. So i need to know how good these are for that. Trance music performance is also a must.

Thanks but I cannot extend upto that point.

As far as the review I had already read it quite a time back  Will check with some TE guys @ chennai and request them to demo the Swans if they have some free time at hand.

How is the M10 for gaming ?

I think it Edifier C3 should be sufficient for most needs.
