I wanted to ask if anyone had tried using VMware server 2.0 with windows 7. Are there any issues with it. Also if any had tried VMware server 2.0 with windows 7 64bit. I wanted to install the windows7 64 bit along with vmware server 2.0 for my home computer. So wanted to know before i format my pc if anyone got it working since the vmware community say there are some networking issues when you try to use them together.
VMware NAT Service won,t work ( same applicable for VMware Workstation <= 6.5.2 ) … else all fine imho
Use the latest version of vmware, they work fine.
You can use the player 3.0, it now allows you to create machines
I was using vmware to install solaris and everything was fine.
why don’t u use vmware workstation instead of server? If u r thinking abt shared disks which is only supported in server edition then u can have another VM of openfiler to do same
IMO workstation version is much better if u r using it for learning, testing purpose.
Hi,
i’m not sure this is the apt thread to post this. Being my first post, pls bear with me.
I am planning to get a new notepad very soon. And my work requires me to utilize multiple Os. Does Vmware work seamlessly on Win 7 Home Premium? Or is there some difference from Win 7 Prof/ultimate? The doubt is based on the knowledge that the new XP mode in Win 7 is only available in the Professional edition and above.
Any advise would be highly appreciated.
Thanks
Specifically speaking about VMWare … If you want to use any VM with 64-bit Guest OS then you need Intel-VT or AMD-V support from processor and mobo.
It doesn’t matter which host OS you use … Win 7 Home Premium should do fine.
XP Mode for Win 7 is crap imo … and unnecessarily needs Intel-VT or AMD-V support … however same thing can be achived using Virtual Box or VMWare on the machines whithout H/W assisted virtualization support
Thanks it was a great insight
