Coming from the now “abandoned” Arc browser, Zen felt like the obvious choice. It has most if not all of the bells and whistles of a good Arc’ish browser. Having said that, I’ve been trying out Zen on macOS recently and it’s an memory hog. At it’s peak, it was using 8GB of RAM, and I barely had some 6-7 tabs opened. I had to manually set Tab Unload from about:config, post which the RAM usage was “better“ (around 2-3GB with 2-3 active tabs), still high. Seems like there is some issue with memory leak, or so I’ve found in online forums.
I really like the browser, so is there anything else I can do to control the RAM usage. I’d prefer a efficient browsing experience. Or are there any other good alternatives to Zen, which I can try?
What is your total system RAM? and how much RAM other browsers use for the same tabs?
