President of SCEE David Reeves says platform holder is set to unveil new clampdown

President of SCEE David Reeves has admitted to MCV that there is a global piracy issue on PSP – and said that Sony is set to unveil a new clampdown on those responsible.

However, speaking at the firm’s developer DevStation conference in London last week, Reeves said that the trend was actually helping drive sales of PSP hardware.

“There is a piracy problem on PSP. We know about it, we know how it’s done. It sometimes fuels the growth of hardware sales, but on balance we are not happy about it,†said Reeves, telling attendant developers that Sony will unveil new ways to combat piracy soon."

No sh*t.

In other breaking news Sun is hot, ice is cold, today is saturday and I suck at racing games.

BTW he is right about piracy helping PSP sales. Wouldnt have touched a PSP with a barge pole if homebrew, emulators and CFW were not an option. As things stand its best machine to play a SNES game on the go.

So yeah I bought it mostly because of "piracy".

Translation: We've made enough money off of the PSP through piracy that we can now afford to heed those whiney devs and do something about it.

^^ and they'd do something , knowing very well that the pirates will find a workaround for this "something" too, no matter what it is......so they won't after all have to worry about the sales drop in the long run.
