Laptops $1000 lappy from US

Guys one of my friend is looking to get a lappy from the US. Budget is about 1000 USD. Need suggestions about the various models offered, preferably by HP or Dell.

Since I've been out of the scene for a while, I've no idea about the various configs available in the budget. He'll be mostly using it for 3D max and some other CAD software, so a good graphic card and lots of RAM is required. Also a 14" screen would be good enough.

Any suggestions would be highly appreciated

Asus would kill Hp and dell. they make money out of innocent people who don't know about computers. Custom laptops would also be good.
