1000 tons of gold buried underground it seems. And that sadhu is claiming another 1500 tons is buried somewhere else. and to think the asi, ministers, people are all so excited to see if there is really gold there and are camping on that forgotten site. all believe the dream of some sadhu.
media channels as usual doing their job by covering this.

no paucity of stupid people in India I guess.

Reminds me of the film Joker (yes the flop film with Akshay Kumar in it) where since no one heeds to their demands, the village people and all plot the alien and crop design stuff so they come into limelight.

hehehe I saw this on some news channel few nights back and laughed and changed the channel..... They showed the tents of the ASI and were saying that the digging is about to start in a day or two....
On the contrary a huge amount of gold was found in some temple's basement last year.... But seems that the case is some court and no one can touch that .... how stupid....

Assume this gold is actually there and goes into government treasury (yeah assume no one is corrupt) then will this impact the valuation of Rupee as against USD etc ?
I think valuation of a currency is related to Gold repository of the country as well right ?

I wish ministers like Siddaramaiah were the norm. Nothing perfect, but not loony either.

Lets not Assume too much..... It will only make a ASS -of - U and ME
Actually I dont understand how can some family or dynasty claim their rights on such long lost or forgotten treasures. As per our constitution and laws anything historic found while excavating is automatic Govt property.
For those who dont know... as per law even on your own plot/farm anything below 4feet is Govt property. ... This type of things sound very strange.... But its nothing compared to other 1000s of weird things happening in India.

was 1000 tons of gold even made in those age of kings? I mean all the Indian kings spent time fighting amongst themselves and the british. most of the money must have been spent on arms etc.

and its too weird to think someone will bury so much gold in one place instead of
scattering it, in two three places.

if there was anything, the british would have looted it first since they had free slaves at that time.

@6pack 1000 ton of gold isn't as large as you are thinking it to be. All of it can be stored in an extremely small space.

Wikipedia says that the density of gold is 19.30 g·cm−3.

Now, to calculate how much space (volume) 1 ton of gold occupies, use the formula density = mass/volume.

Thus, volume = mass/density, which yields: V = 1000*1000 g / 19.3 g cm−3. The answer is 51,813 cm3.

Assuming it is a cube, the dimensions can be calculated by taking the cube root of the volume, which is 37.28 cm.

So, a cube of gold requires only 37 cm on each side (length, breadth and height) to weigh a ton. That's around 15 inches, or ~1.22 feet.

However, the size occupied here is calculated based on the assumption that it is all packed into a cube. Now, considering jewels, coins and the likes, you can extrapolate it to occupy 3 times the space of that, or even 5 times (and even more), but even then 1000 ton of gold will sit comfortably in a space smaller than the size of an average property if it is stacked properly.

It was panned when it came out, but that movie Phir Bhi Dil Hain Hindustani was way ahead of its time. The "news" channels are a joke.

when the actual news was about to be covered. the cameras were trying to capture all "gora" reporters in attendance.
content on the news channels today is bad, very bad.

Nothing new... This is kind of norm now a days..... Unfortunately its the same with newspaper. I stopped purchasing newspaper for more than a year now.
Was fed up of the same article being repeated on multiple pages. Half the news paper is repeat news literally entire para copy pasted one below another and other half news items are lifted from Internet sites.
The advt are sometimes better than the news in the papers.
Infact I had subscribed to TOI and DNA and many a times both the papers had the same photo and the same text word by word line by line about a particular news...

..where did this come from?
Regarding superstitions and blindly believing babas, he's shown courage to dispel them. Obviously, the premise behind this entire exercise is some sadhu's dream; which is completely irrational.[DOUBLEPOST=1382106736][/DOUBLEPOST]

That report must've been from Reuters, or their likes. Newspapers can license content and print/distribute it.

Well, leaving the sadhus wet dreams aside, finding gold in temple is quite plausible considering that kings of yester years used to consider temples (or other such places of religious significance) as their private treasuries and have been know to hide their stashes in such places. But the real question is whether the govt would be allowed to touch any of it. It would be quickly twisted into communal politics if the govt tries to take gold found in a temple.

Heck, Tirumala gets shit loads of anonymous donations (in form of currency and/or gold/jewelry) each of which may be in lakhs or crores. Most of it is black money from businessmen and politicians. Technically it should be seized by govt and can be put to good use. But that never happens.
