hi,
where can i get these sata II 10k RPM drives.
i went to nehru place for the same and there i was able to see 10k RPM drives but thoese had SCSI connectors and were for servers.
and also tell the pricing of these drives.

also suggest that would it be worth to buy a 10kRPM drive or buy a SSD.
also suggest Cheapest SSD available in market.

Was that an advice for the heck of it? The WD Black is NOT a 10k rpm drive just in case you did not know it.

@OP: The cheapest SSD would probably be the Intel X25-V 40GB SSD. It's an MLC drive which supports TRIM. Retails for about 125USD so should probably translate to 7500~8000 INR once it hits Indian markets. Should show up in the market anytime now.

Are you referring to the ones which makes use of CF cards? I'm not sure of them but you're better off waiting for the SSD over a high-speed drive considering you are planning to invest in one right away.

Latencies are alien to these SSDs. :lol:
 
To use a Seagate Cheetah or some other SAS drive, you'd need a x58 board supporting SAS or a discrete SAS card. Otherwise, you're limited to the WD Velos for a 10k drive. There are rumours that SSDs are going to some significant price cuts in a couple of months, so you might consider waiting a little.

i know mate wd black is 7200rpm dive i just mention 'cause of their superior performance.for 10k rpm WD raptors r best.
 
The consensus after googling for the same question also seems to be to wait for SSDs as the faster hdds still come at a premium price.

One of the things I don't get though is the fact that for the capacities that will be available for SSDs in the near future will mean that at most you can install a couple of games and big apps which means a lot of instal/uninstalling. The benchmarks don't show that difference of time spent on doing that which will definitely be pretty significant.

they dun give superior performance. Infact they perform pathetic compared to seagate 1tb 7200.12 which is more than 1k cheaper, and runs lot cooler. check for reviews mate.

10k/15k drives are in different league, and SSD league is much ahead of all :D
