Alrighty now I just it hooked up to the internet with the Intel DG965RYCK motherboard which AFAIK has an onboard Gigabit ethernet support which technically means I am entitled to 1Gbps of Lan connection. Now here's the deal I had my cable operator come in & have a Cat5e cable connected via a switch which is capable of 10/100Mbps of connections. The deal is my lan auto sensed it to 10 Mbps which IMO is lame when I should be getting atleast 100Mbps(assuming the swicth is not capable of matching up with my onboard lan's speed). Now my question is why did it get auto sensed to 10 Mbps full duplex connection? Do I need a driver update for my Lan? Also I tried using my friend's standard 10/100Mbps Realtek Lan card which gets auto sensed to 100Mbps just fine but is somehow not configuring my ISP's rasppoe connection. But this determined it's not a fault from their side.Guys please help me get this connection setup to 100Mbps as I need to get good speed on my local hub.

Most cablewallahs use a 10 mbps Hubs rather than 100 mbps switches .... mind you even when you see a switch written on the device ..it might just well be a hub .

Do not fret since the bandwidth is more then sufficient for your internet use which might be 512 or less from what i will assume . The only hitch here is that you might get affected by low throughput when connected to filesharing networks on the Local area networks like DC++ or similar .

i see you have already voiced the concern .. my bad for not looking properly ... speak to your cablewallh and say that you would require a 100 mbps switch ,,, and say it nicely ;)

well that is exactly my concern.I had bought this service to get full access to my LAN via DC++.But since it has downported me to a 10Mbps connection I am capped at my Lan download speeds to as low as 900kpbs-1Mbps.Whereas I should getting 8-10Mbps speeds on a 100Mbps connection of the LAN.Now the catch here is that my friends lan card was able to detect the auto sense option & throttle it to 100Mbps speed although it could not get me connected to the internet. But that directly implied that it was indeed connected to a 100Mbps port on the switch. So any idea what might be wrong on my onboard? Need to get this sorted out soon. Please am really eager.

^^ i honestly doubt that would work.. unless you and your friend stay in the same building , i dont see how is that possible... i would assume that the cablewallah has used different hardware at your place compared to your friends . Unless you have a switch , that is not going to work ..

Oh no you did not get my point.I was saying that I brought my friends LAN card plugged it into my PC & then connected the same cable & it got auto sensed to 100Mbps which it was not doing in my onboard LAN.The switch for sure is a 10/100Mbps supporting one. Also most of my friends in the same building get 100Mbps speeds using the standard 10/100Mbps based LAN cards. Is it a problem with high end Gigabit supporting boards? or is it a driver issue?

@Varkey:Manually doing it will disable the connection as on the "Auto Sense" mode it would directly pick up the best possible speed for your lan.Any modification in it would lead a miscalculation & hence disable it or causes it to not function properly. And I did try it manually as well but no luck.Said "Lan cable unplugged".:bleh:

even i have a similar board dg965wh and sometimes it auto sense as 10mbps when i connect my adsl router to it. but mostly its 100mbps. but i have tried manually setting it to 100mbps and it has worked fine for me.

Well if you are sure about the hardware then you don't have to worry set it manually, it's going to work fine.

Atleast you got it automatically detected to 100Mbps.I didn't ever get connected at 100Mbps.Even if once it would stay connected for a minute to 100Mbps then I would be assured that it can support 100Mbps on auto sense.Need to check with the driver update perhaps that can help. Now I am really desparate.:(

@Priyo & Archish:I can't set it manually either on 100MBPS full/half duplex or 1Gbps forced mode as it would cut my lan connection. It shows up with connected for a while & then shows local area network unplugged.

Will try that as soon as I reach home as I am not sure even this will work but anyways since you guys say so lets give it a shot.:hap2:

Any other wise ideas would certainly be appreciated.:cool2:

Oh & before I forget thanks for the help people, appreciate it.
